Great start to a new series!
Another excellent tale by Ms. Wine! This one features an enemies to lovers story.Ailis Robertston and Bhaic MacPherson are born enemies - but due to the scheming of the Earl of Morton - regent of Scotland - they are forced to marry. At first I found Ailis to be very immature and naïve - she agreed to the marriage, but ran back to her father's home the first chance she got. She acts more like a girl of 15 or 16 rather than a woman of 23. Bhaic lets her go and makes no attempt to bring her back. They met again about a month later at the May Day festival. Bhaic gets jealous when Ailis is dancing with a rival clans heir and when he intervenes - she again runs off. This time Bhaic follows her - and saves her from being abducted. They share a heated moment which could have led to the consummation of their marriage - but they are interrupted by Bhaic's brother Marcus. Their fathers are ready to start a war over Ailis' abrupt disappearance and they are needed to break up the fight. This is when Ailis starts to grow up and agrees to go home with Bhaic and solidify the marriage to stop the feuding.Ailis' reception at the MacPherson hall is less than welcome and I liked that Ms. Wine didn't make it easy for Ailis to fit in - the hatred between these two clans runs deep and it would have been too unrealistic to believe that everyone would fall in love with Ailis and accept her right away. Bhaic is kind to Ailis, but he won't consummate their marriage until she comes to him. He tries to woo her and several times these two are close to getting the deed done when they are interrupted - it actually got to be quite humorous.Ailis is struggling with conflicting feelings - she is very attracted to Bhaic and really wants to make the alliance work - but they are enemies and she is still treated like a prisoner and is very much disrespected by the clan members. She has only made one friend, Helen, who is a Grant and was abducted by Bhaic's brother Marcus to keep her father in line. The two form a connection and become friends. Helen is a wonderful secondary character and I really can't wait for her story! When these two FINALLY get together I thought the story would fizzle out - but I should have known that Ms. Wine wouldn't make it that easy :)The final 1/4 of the book probably has more action and conflict than the first 3/4! Mistaken identities, near death experiences, daring rescues, the appearance of a former lover and a very touching declaration - not to mention all the hot love scenes! If you like enemies to lovers stories or sexy, hot highlanders - look no further, this is the book you want to read!

Great love story
Ailis Robertson and Bhaic MacPherson are from two clans that have been fighting each other for three generations over what their great grandfathers did! The King of Scotland is forcing them to marry or their fathers would be hanged, these two people are both strong willed and very stubborn people! I enjoyed this book so much, hours of great reading plot was fantastic. It's the first in a series of three books,I will definitely be reading the rest of the series, wonderful Scottish story of finding love of two people who grew up hating each others clans.I would recommend you to read this book, gave it a5 star rating.

"Forced to Change the Minds and Hearts"
I have read all of Mary Wine's books, and it is a true pleasurable reading experience. She just gets better and better with each book. Her historical knowledge is strong and when reading her Highlander stories, she easily takes you back to that time and places you there.Grabbing you in the beginning with a fate you can't help but have feelings towards sucks you in immediately. I read this book in two days because I absolutely couldn't put it down. I wanted to know every single thing that was going to set Ailis and Braic back each day. I wanted to to see how each of them were going to overcome years of hatred between two families, and more than anything I wanted to see them fall in love.Wine knows how to keep her readers in suspense and on the edge of their seats. I thought I was going to scream every time I thought that it would finally be Ailis and Braic's moment when they would finally couple, only to have yet another interruptions. It drove me crazy all the prying eyes, and controlling McPherson's that interfered in their relationship. It was fun having all those emotions though. I even found myself cry for a second for Ailis and her assistant Helen because it was so hard for women back then not being heard. On top of all the factors that were against them dealing with their feuding clans, they also had to deal with enemy clans neighboring them. Not giving anything away...read the book!! It's sooo good! There is always something around the corner guaranteed to happen when you read Wine story.

EVEN THOUGH A UNIQUE BEGINNING - 3.5 STARS!
I have read a lot of Highland books and this had a unique beginning the way they were forced to marry was entertaining. It took them forever to consummate their marriage. The first two times of being interrupted was ok, but then it became ridiculous. It was hard to see how a romance was going to happen. There is violence, some suspense, very descriptive lovemaking (yes it finally happens), within marriage. When it does happen, it happens frequent.I also, agree with other reviewer's, that our h reaction to his previous lover was to calm. Our H was not an alpha male as most Highlander books I read. He was very concerned with the h, which was nice but I felt out of character for a Laird's son. HE WAS TOO PATIENT WITH OUR h. I didn't really have a problem with our h as others did, yes at times she acted immature, but other times had a back bone. I also, agree with other reviewer's, that our h reaction to his previous lover was too calm. The ending was ok, but mostly it was a set up for the next book. I did enjoy the H brother and the h friend, who are the main character's in the next book.No cliffhanger for our main couple of this story. We are left wondering about the H brother and the h friend, not all is resolved for them, which if you want to more of their story, you will have to purchase the next book.As usual, I am not going into the premise, just what you will discover in reading it. Forced to marry the enemy
I really enjoyed this book, even though the plot slightly ran out of steam at some points.Ailis is forced to marry Bhaic to stop their clans from feuding, but it means she must make her home in the enemy clan where she is hated and distrusted. Bhaic resents his new bride at first but is impressed by the way she puts a good face on things to prevent bloodshed. On their wedding night he decides to let her off the hook for sex, but all sorts of problems arise from the marriage not being consummated. Some other reviewers were annoyed by the fact that a lot of the book is about a couple not having sex but I thought the reasons were convincing. The sexual moments were steamy and well done. The daily life of a laird's wife was interesting as were the battles that Ailis fought to try and win over her new clan. It is true the characters were a little bland and not as three dimensional as in some other novels, but this is rapid-read romance not a booker prize entry.
