Roxy’ s entire studio discography Remastered.
This is everything that Roxy Music did in the studio and it’s a fine box. Does it feature the best mastering for these albums? Hard to say. I like them and feel they are better, more dynamic and not as over driven sounding compared to the Bob Ludwig remasters. Each album is packaged in a gatefold sleeve (the first three were original released as gatefolds). Each disc is inside a inner cardboard sleeve color coded to each album. The mastering a are all flat transfers of the original albums. These aren’t all the best versions on CD (The first album sounds better in the SHM-CD and SACD sets) and “Avalon” sounds best on the SACD dual layered disc released by Warner over a decade ago. The best version)n of “Country Life” remains the Warner garden variety first CD release. The rest are among the better CD releases from Roxy. Some of the rare tracks are vinyl needle drops where the tapes are missing (the remixes for a couple of tracks). The version of “Manifesto” here may reflect the first LP pressing in the UK but not the U.S. as that version used the shorter single version. ‘Angel Eyes” is the original U.S. and U.K. Releases on the album not the recut disco version included on early CD issues of the albumThe remixes included here cover all of their b-sides and single releases as near as I can tell. The live albums are, not surprisingly, not in this set because it’s the studio albums release.I had hoped we would get a box of the live releases with unreleased shows but that hasn’t occurred. The packaging for all of the discs is solid, thick cardboard. There isn’t any booklet (which sucks) discussing the making of the albums nor any previously unreleased tracks. This is an exceptional set to get everything Roxy released on LP, EP and singles from the studio.

Get your Roxy Music fix here.
This may be a bold statement but I believe it is true. There has not been a band like Roxy Music, a band that fused art, avant-garde, 50's rock, electronic music and other influences into a sound that can only be described as Roxy Music. At least that was the case until "Manifesto", after that they basically became Bryan Ferry's backing band. By "Flesh & Blood" the line was officially blurred between Bryan Ferry solo and Roxy Music. This box set comprises the studio recordings of Roxy Music, from the self-titles debut right up to "Avalon". Actually a similar LP package was released on vinyl back of the first 7 albums. This box is basically the CD version but with the added bonus of "Avalon" and 2 cd's worth of B-sides, single mixes, dance mixes, and other oddities. The big disappointment was that the box was originally planned to include DVD/high res content but was scaled back to just 10 CD's with a 2 disc collection of bonus material. This was a major disappointment but what are going to do? The good news is that the box set is actually mastered very well and sounds great. The powers that be decided to utilize the original 2 track masters and transfer them flat so there would be no loss of dynamic range and minimal tweaking as opposed to the Bob Ludwig re-masters. So your getting no brick walling and a more purer sound more close to what the original vinyl LP's sounded like.Just be forewarned that the first album was recorded with a small budget so a lot of audio deficiencies remain. It wasn't until "For Your Pleasure" that Roxy Music got a bigger budget and was able to use AIR studios with Chris Thomas and the recording shows. Also there are no track notes, essays, lyrics, or other ephemera included. You just get the albums in mini-replica album covers with inner sleeves. In the end this is a pretty good deal if you don't have any Roxy Music, the price has dropped considerably so you can probably now snag it for under $70 which is a steal considering what your getting. So in summation-you get every Roxy Music album that sounds great.-you get 2 cd's worth of extra stuff like 45 mixes, b-sides, ect.-miniature record sleeves-a real cool box

Boxed Up & Ready To Listen
A excellent box set containing virtually all their studio recordings in one place. A gem of a collection plus 19 tracks featured that are appearing on CD for the first time from singles & alternate versions for clubs. Always loved their music and the cover art was another plus when you bought their albums. This is a must buy if you really enjoy this band & want it all in one place. If your into just there hits, then check out one of Roxy Music's "Best Of" collections. There is suppose to be a re-release of this collection on Universal but if it is anything like The Stones reissues, I'd stay clear of that one and get the original release of this collection.Drop by my website sometime @ "JudeMac Forever" and look around. Some there for about everyone.

A superb collection
What an amazing collection. I had heard some of their albums but not all of them at the time. The first striking aspect is the fantastic packaging. Each album is in a replica US style vinyl sleeve. The first three were originally gatefolds and these are faithfully produced. The others are ‘new’ gatefolds with an alternative image from the shoot for the inner gatefold. They are also very robust and even have colour co-ordinated inner sleeves. The music is amazing: they are one of the few bands to change dramatically but still produce excellent music in each of their incarnations. The first two are heavily influenced by Eno and are amazing arthouse experimental albums: what a pity he left so soon! The next three lost Eno and saw a much more melodic and commercial style but still heaving with rock integrity and imagination. The final three are polished pop with each one getting progressively better. Only ‘Manifesto’ disappointed. The package also contains two discs of singles etc. Altogether this is a five star package. I just wish all of these were available in hi res stereo and 5.1. ‘Avalon’ is, and the 5.1 guru Steven Wilson has remixed the first album in 5.1 but it still remains unreleased. All of these multi-layered albums are crying out for an immersive 5.1 experience. Is someone listening?

Genius fromone of THE great UK bands.
The genius of the original Roxy Music knew no bounds. The second phase left me somewhat cold at the time, I was too used to the radical experimental Roxy. I was wrong. Avalon may sound like 'lounge core' compared to The Bogus man or Song for Europe, but it's actually a master class in song construction. This box set cost me 35 quid and for that you get all the 'official' recordings. Shame they couldn't/chose not to, include the BBC sessions, which have done the rounds for so long on dodgy quality bootlegs. they are as raw as it gets and more inventive than anything else that was coming out of these Islands at the time. I'd give this lot 10 stars if I could!

What a collection.
This was an incredibly easy way to supplement the Roxy Music I already had on vinyl. This is a classy well packaged collection. Each album with its distinctive art work is gloriously reproduced and even the protective inner sleeves are colour coordinated to the album. The music speaks for itself, but I cannot fault the depth of the collection and the way it is presented. On the face you may think it seems expensive, but remember you are getting all the studio work they ever produced, it's a slice of musical history and worth every penny.

Roxy music : a real treat
What a treat this box set is!Each cd is housed in its cardboard sleeve which replicates the vinyl covers of the original albums. I don't know if the originals had inner sleevess which may have contained information such as lyrics, musician credits, production details and so on. The Sound is quite brilliant - it's crisp and sounds like it was recorded yesterday. The bonus is the last double CD: b-sides and alternative versions. This is a wonderful collection which I climaxes with The Main Thing one of the most intriguing 12" mixes ever - just sensational.

Must have for any fan of roxy music
All original albums + 2 cd's of b sides, singles (with alternate mixes and 12" versions)... and it sounds like the tapes have been transferred direct source from the original masters... cd's also have sleeve photo's, and discs are in mini sleeves inside outer sleeves like the LP's would have been. This sounds quality on these cd's is excellent, I got my box set... worth every penny.
