Canning Tools (Jar Lifter)

This is an essential kitchen tool I didn't know I needed. When it comes any kind of jars or glasses this is exactly what I needed. It does a great job and does it well. Highly recommended.

This is a great jar lifter for canning. It was easy to use and I felt I had a good grip on the hot jars. It had the traditional design and was very sturdy. It is fairly lightweight but still stabile.

Everything I needed to get started with water bath canning. The canning funnel fits perfectly into my standard-mouthed Ball jars. The lifter gets about as good as a grip as you can expect on wet glass. Felt a little silly using the magnetic lid lifter but it does work well. The brush seemed gratuitous at first but it does reduce jar washing to a 5-10 second job easy. The scoop is a scoop - personally hasn't helped me with canning but it is a nice sturdy scoop I've found other uses for. All-around a nice, well-made set of tools for a very fair price.

Growing up on the family farm, I would slip into the kitchen to watch my mother and grandmother can pretty much anything that would fit in a jar. Although men and boys in the kitchen were tolerated at about the same level as rats in the corn crib, I was able to pick up on a few things. I would watch my grandmother use a butter knife (oh yeah, that looked safe!) and my mother smacking the bottom of the jar against the palm of her hand or a towel folded on the counter. What I learned from watching both scenarios was that there must be tool somewhere to make the task of removing trapped air from canning jars more simple. I had to wait 35 years, but I finally found it this summer when I bought this tool. It works perfectly in a widemouth jar and almost as well in a standard mouth jar. It is also long enough to reach the bottom of a quart jar and still have enough room to hold it. The magnet is also very strong. If not careful, you can pick up too lids rather than one. I cannot attest to whether or not it is dishwasher safe, because I am afraid that the magnet was put in with a glue that would give way under extreme heat. These are exactly as shown and are sturdy and easy to clean. I bought them for bacon and they don't grip small strips of bacon well. If you plan on using the for something bigger like hotdogs or chicken, they work great! I gave it a 4 since it doesn't work for bacon, which is why I bought it.

Great for helping me fill the bird/squirrel feeders!

I've canned my produce for 40 years and never knew about these little lid lifters. When I saw this, I didn't think it would really be much help, but it was cheap so I ordered it. What a deal! It makes it so much easier to get the lid out of the hot water! I don't burn my fingers and don't risk touching the sealing side of the lid. It's a great little invention to help us in the kitchen at canning time.

I would get again. Opens bottles so easy. Also works with ie sticky honey flip-open tops. Quality old-fashioned like product. Not plastic. Makes things easy on my hands.
