Pickling like crazy
I have found the absolute best kosher dill pickle recipe. It works with pickling cucumbers, green tomatoes, green beans, daikon radishes. For each quart jar you pickle:2 tbsp of dill1/2 tbsp of whole peppercorns6 garlic cloves cut in half lengthwise1/2 jalapeño pepper no seeds cut lengthwise (this only gives it a little bit of heat, if you prefer more heat, leave the seeds in)Stuff as much of cucumber or whatever you are pickling (cut in quarters lengthwise) into the jar.In a pot, combine 1.25 cups of filtered water (I just use the fridge filter), 1 cup of plain white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of Coarse Kosher Salt (I use the Morton’s in a blue box). It is very important to use coarse salt as using fine grain salt will result in a lot more salt per tablespoon. Bring to a boil, make sure all the salt is dissolved, then pour the mixture into the filled jars. Leave a little headspace, then put the lids on the jars. Allow the jars to cool and pop into the fridge. After 2 weeks, they should be ready. If it still tastes too salty, put it back in the fridge for another week.Anyway, as this recipe is ah-mazing, I have gone through a lot of dill. I grew a bunch, used all that. A small insignificant container of dill seed at the store is $4. That will maybe do two jars if I skimp on it! And then I found this awesome deal. The dill seeds are wonderful quality. I have gone through one whole bag this summer and am now on the second bag. Everyone is begging for some pickles. Coworkers, family. My 16 year old had never touched a radish in his life. He ate an entire quart jar of the pickled daikon radish. I would not be able to afford that many tiny containers of dill from the store. So I am very happy I found this item.

Not for planting
Someone had asked a question about whether or not these can be used for seed. I would say no. I soaked some for a few days in filtered water. There was a slight yellowish color bleed into the water so I don’t know what that is. But they did not sprout. I planted anyway to see if they would sprout in soil. So far they have not. It’s been about a week. So I would not get them for anything other than pickling.
