Perfect for my 10 cup Chemex Coffee Maker
I bought this electric kettle to make the "pour-over" coffee brewing experience with my Chemex coffee maker easier. I love this electric kettle. The 1.5 Liter size is just right for my 10 cup Chemex. It came with a thermometer (which I hadn't expected) but what a nice surprise. It fits in one of the holes in the top and you can make sure the water is at the correct temperature before pouring over your coffee grounds. If you want water to boil, the kettle will shut off automatically when it reaches that temperature. I try to catch it as it reaches the 195-200 degrees (desired temp. for coffee) so I don't have to wait for the water to cool a bit before making my coffee. There is a maximum fill line marked on the inside of the kettle, which from reading the reviews is important to follow. The lid fits snug into the pot (almost too tight for my liking), but I suspect it will loosen a bit over time. The kettle sits easily into it's base and the pot looks stylish on our coffee bar area. I haven't timed the process, but I would estimate that it takes me about 10-12 minutes to make coffee which includes grinding the beans and "brewing" the coffee. The gooseneck spout is really nice for controlling the water flow. The only feature I would have liked is a variable temperature setting. I've seen that feature offered by other brands, but at almost double the price of the Osaka, it wasn't worth the added cost to me. To sum up, nice large size, fast, simple, appears well built and stylish.

) kettle is of good quality and works as expected
This larger 1.5 liter (50.7 US Fl Oz.) kettle is of good quality and works as expected. Allows for more precision pouring than a traditional kettle spout and with practice you can stop right at the desired amount when measuring on a pour over scale. I use it for various pour over coffee applications (Chemex etc.) as well as with my aeropress. It heats within a reasonable amount of time and typically can hold temperature long enough to complete multiple pours (in less than 8 minutes). My analog thermometer fit through any of the 3 lid vent holes but the stem was too short to reach the water level for my typical 2 person pour over brews. I purchased a digital thermometer with a 6 inch metal stem which was long enough to touch the minimum water level (just barely) without touching the bottom. However, this stem was a litter larger in diameter so I did have to drill out one of the lid holes slightly larger to fit and I use a hair tie to hold the heavier top thermometer upright. This was easily done and did not result in any damage or negative issues with the lid rusting as the lid seems to be all stainless not just coated. The inside of my kettle is defect free after 4+ months of regular use and shows no signs of rusting. That being said I do empty any left over water out of the kettle after use (99% of the time) and leave the lid off of it to allow evaporation a chance to dry it out. The minimum water level mark is more than enough for one aeropress brew (16g coffee 240g water). Plenty of room for water for 6-8 cup/30-40oz Chemex classic sizes as well as Hario V60 Sizes 01 & 02.

It leaks. (And it's still wonderful.)
1-3-18I wanted to love this. Seems like such a great design.Normally, I heat water then transfer the hot water to a carafe and use throughout the day.I've done that since I bought it 6 months ago.Recently I left the hot water in the Osaka after boiling and found later that it leaks. And leaks and leaks.Very disappointing.1-23-21I'm updating my original review of this product. Purchased 12-17-17I originally gave this kettle a 1 star rating because it leaks when water is stored in it. But that rating isn't fair. Yes, this product does leak if you leave water in it for an extended length of time. And it does oxidize if you don't let it dry out between uses. But the instructions tell you to NOT leave water in the kettle, and to turn it upside down to dry after use. So it does what it was manufactured to do.I'm in a household with two and sometimes three people. And we use a lot of hot water. This little kettle boils water 2-5 times a day, and has done so for several years. We remove all water each time, pouring any leftover water into a hot water carafe (which is a handy system, as hot water is always available). And we turn the kettle upside down to dry for awhile.I bought this originally because of its beautiful lines and the fact that the heated water doesn't touch plastic. So if you're willing to adapt to this kettle, it might be just right for you. I love it and have no regrets.

10 out of 10
Because they didn't have the 1 liter Osaka that I previously owned, I made the mistake of buying a different brand in the one liter size. The lid was loose and the pot didn't fit properly and wiggled on the base. It just was not good so I packed it right back up and ordered this one as I put the other one on the doorstep for UPS to return. My other one was the one with liter Osaka was given to me and I went to college by my mother. That's how long it lasted me! I should never have purchased the other brand and as soon as I got it I sent it back and ordered this one even though it was bigger than the one I wanted and now I'm so happy that I did because it really suits me for not only making my cocoa and tea but I use it for heating water before I boil my pasta etc when cooking. Cuts down on my cook time! I love this product and this company is amazing!

DANGEROUS poorly manufactured! NOT Japanese in any way!
OMFG I boiled the first pot and the HANDLE FELL OFF!it burned me and got nearly into the electrical base. this was a HORRIBLE accident that could have been WAY worse than even a burned hand and arm. the HANDLE FELL OFF of a thing filled with boiling water! =:0 it looks like the bottom of where the handle attaches wasnt soldered on properly? i dont know, but it seems cheaply made altogether.it is NOT made in Japan, the booklet says "inspired" by Japan. Japan makes high quality stuff, it's too bad this Chinese company wasnt inspire by THAT instead of just the Japanese lettering on the logo. do i have to give one star? because i give it negative all the stars possible...
