Tovolo Sphere Ice Moulds, Ice Cube Trays, Set of 2

These ice sphere moulds are brilliant! I did hesitate buying them initially and considered going for a cheaper silicon style mould, but I'm glad I didn't because I'm quite sure they wouldn't give results as awesome as these Tovolo moulds.I am very impressed with the sturdiness and build quality, and would definitely recommend them to anyone (not just whisky drinkers) as a fun alternative to regular boring square ice.As for the reviewers who have complained that the ice wasn't crystal clear, or that it was sometimes cracked, or that their spheres were a fraction off being perfectly round, well ...... that's what ice does! The description doesn't mention perfectly clear ice, and the images don't depict perfectly flawless spheres, but I think anyone would be hard pushed to find a better ice sphere without going to the troubles of insulated directional freezing.

I bought these when I got obsessed with making Negronis (Lovely cocktail). I like my drinks cold but strong so I wanted some ice that would melt relatively slowly. These ice moulds produce very good looking round balls of ice. If you want, you can also include berries or mint leafs in the ice which looks rather cool. You should note however that the balls really are quite big. If you only have a small glass they either won't fit, or you end up with no space for the drink.

They work as expected. You get nice ice balls from them. Just to be clear (very intended pun), you won't get clear ice from these. That requires a different process. I'm just saying, since some people think these can be used for it. If you want nice icey balls for your drink (somewhat clouded, as your ordinary ice usually is), go ahead and click that button. I bought these as a bit of a novelty item to enjoy with drinks. They do appear to be pricey for what are effectively ice cube makers, but the results are fantastic. I read numerous reviews about many similar items and eventually chose these as the reviews were more positive. They do not dissapoint, no leaks but they do need to be placed with the top facing upwards otherwise they would. Take around 2hrs to freeze the outside with liquid in the centre that can look quite effective and maybe 10 to 12 hrs to be solid. The spheres are relatively easy to remove with a quick squeeze of the plastic and then a push on the silcon top. I store the spheres in clingfilm which permits me to have a stock going, a stock is required as everyone wants one so be prepared. The spheres last for around 2hrs in shorts (several) and loose shape after about 1hr. They do keep the liquid cool and add to the enjoyment. I use them in standard tumbler glasses and they fit just right, anything smaller and they would not go in. I find that the best method of having clear spheres is to boil filtered water permit to cool, place in fridge overnight then into the mould and top shelf of the freezer. Slower cooling seems to work best. Without the previous process the cubes are never clear all the way through. Several people who have seen the spheres have gone on to buy these for themselves. I would recommend these to anyone.

For making ice

These Glasses were purchased as a gift for a friends 40th birthday. Not only did they turn up earlier than expected, but the packaging was lovely and made it feel like a really special purchase.Upon checking the glasses we noticed a slight blemish on one of them and o immediately sent a photo to the seller. Adam was extremely helpful and his customer service has been outstanding. No sooner had I contacted him, a new set of two glasses arrived 2 days later and they were all perfect.The image doesn't quite do them justice, they really are stunning and perfect for the gift we were looking for. The Biryhday boy loved them too.

I don't know what sort of weirdness is going on in my life at the moment, but currently I have been watching 'Still Game' on the train to work. This has made me want to try malt whiskey. I have to have spirit with ice although I think whiskey drinkers may disagree, anyhow! I saw on youtube that to make 'clear' ice you need to perform 'directional freezing' so when these turned up, I filled them up, stuck them in the freezer then pondered how, on my next go I was going to try to insulate them to get 'my balls' clear. IMAGINE MY JOY when I just took my balls out and rolled them in my hands, perfectly clear!Oh happy times xxx

These molds really do a nice job of creating orb shaped ice. I got these for my whiskey drinking family members. They enjoy cooling their libations down with this better than cubes. The ice lasts a long time, and doesn't over dilute the liquor. They're easy to make a well.

I was abit skeptical at 1st, however, after reading the reviews, I thought this would be the best option for me.They work great!! I'm so happy! Prepared my 1st round cubes for use. They sat all night in the freezer, and upon using today - IM VERY IMPRESSED!The moulds stack nicely and out of the way. Not a big tray I have to decrease food space for. It was easy to take out of the mold, it was seamless and it doesn't dilute your drink like normal ice cubes do. I added the cube to a very large glass and a very warm drink, to see how it stacks up against the regular ice cube. It has kept my drink colder much longer. Versus 10 -12 normal cubes ( which would water down your drink significantly) and its still has alot of melting to do.I remember seeing some people's complaints were that the cubes weren't see through, as they had alot of white in the middle. Im happy to report the ladies who gave the advice for clear rounds - works!The hotter the water you put in the mould, the clearer the round cubes are. It does only make 2 rounds, but they are very good quality and you can always buy more. This company offers many different mould choices. If you want to have a cold and very cool looking drink. Then TOVOLO is the right moulds for you!
