It's ok at what it doews, little overpriced for what it is. - but if you need it, you need it!!
Nice basic bit of kit, feels a little overpriced for what it is. Used it for the first time the weekend. Found it slipping a lot, I have thin shoulder straps. May have to doctor it a little. But would like to be able to swap between backpacks with ease. Was getting annoyed with the tether, easy got twisted and stuck to the Velcro. Might look at replacing it for something else in the near future. Bought it as it was required.

Useful attachment
I have two of these for my Garmin 66i.It straps onto the shoulder of my rucksack and makes it easy to carry and retrieve to check location. Be careful to make sure that you fit the Garmin to the back plate of the holster to hear a click and test it to make sure it’s secure. I didn’t and the Garmin fell off fortunately not damaged. I think it’s probably the best way to carry the device when out walking and it’s not too expensive. Also the Velcro seems to wear or the attached cord tangles on it so it can impeded you when trying to stick the Garmin back on the holster when out walking. Minor gripe only hence 4 stars

Good but flawed material choice
Good but as mentioned by others, the cord frays quickly and then gets stuck on the Velcro. Eventually replaced my cord with thin paracord and that doesn’t fray/grab to date.Bought a twist mount from another maker but preferred the Garmin one for the ease of the Velcro for positioning the gps unit back on its holder - don’t need to be too accurate when walking…

So far so good with this
So far so good with this.I found it quite easy to adjust the attachment Velcro type straps so that the assembly stays put on the rucksack strap without slipping down. When the unit is properly attached to the rucksack strap, it holds the GPS (In my case a GPSMAP 64s) very firmly, with no "flopping around".Thusfar, the Velcro attachment is proving very strong, but I am being careful to hold both sides of the tether when detaching the two Velcro halves, in order to view the GPS.(I suspect that over time, and with considerable use, the Velcro may prove to be the weak point of this accessory, so taking a little bit of extra care when splitting the two halves should at least, help with its longevity). As it's a genuine Garmin accessory, the GPS attachment clip is perfectly matched to the slots on the GPS itself - and also being a genuine Garmin accessory, I'd suggest it's somewhat over-priced for what it actually is !!!However, the overall verdict is that it does exactly what I want - which is to hold GPS securely, in a readily accessible position until needed.

Garmin GPS unit backpack holder
I was very interested in the look of this device when I first found it on Amazon and having just purchased a new Garmin Etrex 30 device I thought this would be a good item to have my GPS unit readily to hand but securely tethered so as not to lose it.With the new mounting point on the new range of Garmin GPS units I was surprised by only finding a handful of items that are available to use but having used this on a number of my walks I'm finding that this device works like a charm. The unit consists of 2 parts that are connected by a length of cord (which is adjustable). The first part is attached to your backpack shoulder strap by a couple of Velcro straps. This may take a couple of attempts to get it in the correct place so you can reach the GPS when taking it on/off your backpack to use.The second part attaches to the GPS unit via the slide on mounting point on the battery cover. The 2 parts have Velcro to attach to each other. How long the Velcro will last will only be found out over time. The cord is adjustable to a degree so when you take the GPS unit off the backpack to use it is safety attached in case you drop it. I have had instances where I had the GPS in hand when I needed 2 hands for something else and I just let the GPS unit dangle on the tether cord before taking it back in hand.Overall I found this device to be very useful and well worth purchasing.

It's the perfect solution
I considered rigging up a paracord tether or some other McGyver type solution but everything I thought of was a worse solution than Garmin's own tether.I have the Garmin Inreach Mini and a Garmin GPS maps 62S. Both work best in a high spot on my gear the mini in particular. Both fit this tether so it's up to me which one to attach which will depend on what I'm upto and what I need closer to hand.My bag has the chunkiest padded shoulder straps and it fits no problem. It's well built, the mount solution for Garmin GPS stuff isnt the most neat and streamlines but this tether mounting plate is very thin, adding very little in the way of extra bulk. The hook and eye feels robust and should do me for a while and if it fails it's cheap enough that replacing it won't break the bank. I'm happy enough with this solution.
