Nothing seems to work right
This wood furnace does not deliver what is advertised. I bought the exact same model from Menards and felt I should warn others about this stove. The only positive is they have super friendly customer service, but it doesn't really seem to solve anything.I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and our first wood furnace was a Hot Blast 1557M that came with the house. It was pretty beat up, but man, it would heat the house to the point of having to open windows in January. It was rated for a 2500 sq feet home. Our home is only 1135 sq ft, so I went with the Shelter SF1000 for a replacement furnace this past fall.I will say it does hold fuel and a large bed of coals for quite some time and burns very cleanly. That being said, it does not feel like the heat ever leaves the firebox. You get no kind of flue temperature or radiant heat. I was told by the manufacturer, it is not designed that way.I'll just list the problems:*Induction fan is totally useless with the thermometer. The house never gets up to temperature so the little fan runs constantly. It doesn't push enough air to make a difference anyway.*It's very messy... the firebox is too shallow and large pieces of coals fall onto the floor when you open the door to push the wood around. Everything in our basement is coated in ash because of the amount of scraping it takes to try and clean out of the firebox to put in more wood. It takes hours to burn it down to get it to fit through the grates. It's a total pain and you end up with large "clinkers".* The fan limit control kicks off and on constantly no matter how you adjust it. You can vary it from it kicking off and on for 1-minute intervals or 3-minute intervals. Very little heat makes it to your ductwork.* Your wood has to be ridiculously dry to even begin to get any warmth. I mean low teens for moisture content.* The workmanship seems to be very poor. The paint on the door began wearing off immediately, the door seal failed within 2 months with resulted in some over fires (that's the warmest our house ever got) that produced at least one cracked weld (pictured). I'm not sure if there are others or not.I'm sad to say, I can't recommend this stove. At this point, I'm not even sure it's safe. We bought this because it was made in the USA. We'll see how the manufacturer handles a return or warranty work.Edit: I talked to the manufacturer and they are willing to work with me to resolve these issues. I still don't think the stove is the right fit, but they may have an upgrade or other solution.Edit #2: The manufacturer will not return my emails at this point. I will end up taking them to small claims court over this lemon.

Not for the northern states!
I picked this furnace up from Menards earlier in 2018 to heat my 1400 sqft house with because the manufacture claims it can do 2500 sqft with 12 hour burn times. Both these claims seem to be false I get about 6 to 8 hour burn times with the house rapidly cooling down by the 8 hour mark. That said it seems to only get my house above 65 if its 40 outside. So if you live where it gets into the negatives look else where for your heat.Update noticed a crack along the weld on the top of the door looking directly into the firebox. Pursuing a return to hy-c

Do not buy! Manufactures claims of burn times are false.
Tried to use the Fire Chief FC1000 version for the 2017/18 burning season and it was a complete fail. Was woken up almost every night with a smoke-filled basement and the smoke detectors going off. Manufacture did visit the house and confirmed that the setup was correct and I was burning dry wood, but the back puffs would not stop. Avoid this unit at all cost as it is not worth the $$ and the 12 burn time is a joke. I do also have the FC1500 and my only complaint is again short burn times.

Buy something else
Is great at filling your house with smoke. Would be 5 Star if that was what I was rating. Nothing but problems and a customer service that blames everything on your install and setup. Even after spending large amounts of money to correct what they see as problems they still find something else to blame on you. I took it out of service at the one year mark and am installing something else. Do not waste your money on this or any other HY-C products.

Do not buy this stove
I've had this furnace for over a year. Had several issues right out of the gate but thought I would try to resolve them. The furnace smokes back , it could not be installed in the house, fortunately it is in my shop. When I open the door it sends the smoke detector off and fills the entire shop with smoke. I need to open the doors and windows to air the place out. The induction fan is a joke, The stack temp, shows that the stack is promoting creosote, so apparently it's not heating up correctly. I have to crank the damper cleanout door to get the stove to heat(poor design) also I tried adding more stack to no avail. The stove came with missing parts, and the wiring harness had loose wires, which I had a tech find after having him check the stove out. Bottom line save your money, do not buy this stove. The techs at the company, although friendly and courteous, don't offer much in the way of solutions

Does NOT function as described
If I could leave zero stars for this item, I would. We purchased this item from Menards and it does NOT even come close to functioning as described. The blower does not produce enough air flow to keep a fire inside the box. The only way to get enough fire built up inside was to leave the bottom door open -- even then, we could never even generate enough heat to get our 300square foot garage above 60 degrees (even with it being 55 degrees outside) There is NO WAY it would heat a 2500 sq ft house! We returned the item for a refund but sadly since it has a $300 rebate, we only were able to receive the purchase price less the $300 as a refund and the additional amount will come in the form of a store credit. Dont waste your money on this piece of junk

Waste of money
This has to be the worst wood furnace out there. No matter what I do I can’t get the stove up to an optimum temperature. This is because of the EPA standards. It seems like it’s starved for air even though the draft blower runs consistently. Now I have to worry about Creosote build up in chimney.I DONT RECOMMEND THIS FURNACE OR ANY OTHER EPA CERTIFIED WOOD FURNACE!
