This a nice instructional chess on basic fundamental tactics for average casual or club chess players.

Ms. Ni has done a great job of packing foundational instructions into her book. And she does it in a way that's informative and fun. You can tell that she respects the reader's intelligence and provides straight-to-the-point explanations without overdoing it.This book feels like a fantastic "family" reading opportunity for one parent (mom or dad) plus the child. I especially like how she included sections on sportsmanship and over-the-board etiquette. In a culture that often overemphasizes winning, here, the author explicitly points out how LOSING a game is a learning opportunity. I think this is a lesson that applies not only to the chessboard, but to life as well.Packed with great puzzles that have clear explanations.

If you have any interest in helping your students/kids go from beginners to intermediate players (and beyond), this is the book that will get them there. Each key concept is explained in a very simple, concise manner. Indeed, the concepts are so clearly explained that even a non-chess-playing parent or teacher can easily help a young player move through the material. But the real magic is what follows each concept: a quiz that thoroughly tests understanding and “locks” it into memory. Great book breaking down the basics of chess for kids or adults. I got it for my daughter who was interested in chess, and I didn't know much about chess. This book was helpful to her, but even more so to me. Lots of pictures. Easy to understand.
