Mediocre sound, fit and build quality, at a high price
The media could not be loaded. Velodyne vBold is a well packaged, feature-rich over-ear Bluetooth headphone that misses the mark in the most important areas: build quality and sound reproduction. Lacking richness of tone and the bass thump you'd expect, and feeling too 'plastic'; bordering on cheap, this product was disappointing to me.Admittedly I'm a tad spoiled. I most frequently listen to my music with these two headsets: Bose AE2w Bluetooth Headphones - Black and Creative Sound Blaster EVO ZxR Entertainment Headset With Bluetooth Mobile Wireless for PC/MAC/PS4 . However, considering both of those headsets are in the same price range, I think it's fair to say I know what to expect from a high priced headphone, and the vBold isn't it.I. PACKAGING: AUpon unboxing I was impressed with the packaging of this item. Gift giving quality with the headphones, carrying pouch, cables and a card which gives you the basic control layout and "pairing your headphones with a Bluetooth-capable device" which has the first step as "turn headphones 'off'". I think they meant ON! The card suggests you check out the velodyne dot com website for more info.II. CHARGING: AThe headphones charge quickly and easily via the mini USB cable - less than 1 hour for me. They are ready when the red light turns green on the device (not mentioned in the included card).III. DIRECTIONS & PAIRING: BThe included card gives you the basic steps, and even if the first instruction is written incorrectly, you get the gist. The headphones paired easily with my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, my Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs and my iPad 3.Directions really are non-existent for this product out of the box and going to the Velodyne site didn't help.IV. FIT: CThese headphones fit my head, but quickly became uncomfortable after 30 minutes of use. The ear cups felt soft at first, but got tight and uncomfortable quickly. I had to adjust the headphones to have the cups cover my ears, and usually have discomfort on the top of my head with over ear phones, but surprisingly the top of my head felt fine wearing these headphones. The cross piece over the top of the head is padded.I had the headphones fully expanded to fit my head. FYI... I wear a 7 1/4" hat size. I think these headphones might be too small for some users.V. CONTROLS: CThe navigation on these headphones is easy enough, even without extensive directions on use, but mistakes happen pretty easily when wearing them. I found adjusting the volume on the headphones to be awkward and at times, difficult to accomplish. I found myself using the device to change it. Moving forward and back with the headphone controls was perhaps the easiest part, and it worked quickly with the paired devices.I did hit the NFC button by mistake, but if I pushed a forward or rewind button, the music resumed. If you press the pause (call answer button) the music stops and if you want to resume the music, you just press it again. Directions for use would have really helped a lot as you just have to fumble your way through the learning curve on this product.VI. BUILD QUALITY: CThe headphones do not feel on par with their asking price. Mainly made of plastic, they lack some of the fit, finish and polish you'd hope for when buying them. They fold up for storage, but there's a lot of clicking and clunking that happens when you do it. They remind me of headphones from the early 80's in terms of their construction. Admittedly they have NFC and Bluetooth capabilities which were not available then, and with that wireless technology no need to be tethered to a device. The headphones have a 30' range, which I tested in my home and found to be more like 10', but in all fairness that range is probably without walls, doors and furniture being involved.VII. SOUND: CAs stated before, I'm familiar with higher end Bluetooth headphones, which I expected to put up against these in a bit of a sound test. That would be like putting a Honda Accord in the Indy 500. There's no contest. The Velodyne vBold lacks in the low and mid-range. Bass is there, but it lacks fullness. The rich sound you were expecting when you plunked down major bucks for these headphones just isn't there! The volume is great for those who like it loud, but louder just doesn't equate to better.Call quality with the earphones was good. My caller could hear me just fine, and I could hear him, but it wasn't stellar.VIII. PRICING: DThese headphones are WAY overpriced! Some who have never used other similarly priced headphones might not notice, but I can't get over it.CONCLUSION...The combination of build quality, sound and price really make me struggle to give this product a star review. The vBold headphones are not terrible, and if gotten at the right price, some will be happy with them. Unfortunately, the only way you'll know if they are truly for you is to give them a try. That's where Amazon's excellent returns policy may come in handy.NOTE: I received this product from Velodyne in exchange for a honest review. I will update this review if needed, and share any correspondence from the company resulting from this review.FROM THE VELODYNE SITE vBOLD PRODUCT PAGE:Make a statement. vBold®:Our wireless headphones offer Bluetooth® connectivity compatible with your iPhone®, iPod Touch®, iPad® or any Bluetooth® capable device. Good headphones, good sound, good quality.
Now, I'm not an audiophile. But I can determine between ok, good, and wow. When I removed these headphones from the box, I was quite impressed with the presentation and overall build quality. I bought the titanium color model. In the box you will receive the headphones, 2 cords for attaching to your audio source, and a soft fabric bag to store your headphones in.The overall sound quality of the headphones is great. There are great low bass tones with low distortion, with good mids and highs as well. Some people might not like the "kicky" bass. The build quality is a rather cheap plastic that looks like it would break but is rather quite durable. Bluetooth connectivity is simple and quick.I would recommend these headphones, as they are on sale right now for only 90 dollars.

Terrible company- avoid them
This company make product with unimaginably bad build quality. They simply fall apart with normal use. The worst part is this : "Upon evaluating the vQuiet headphones you sent, it has beendetermined thatthe faulty is not the result of manufacturer defect andtherefore thewarranty claim has been denied.Let us know if you want thedamaged headphones sent back or for us todiscard it?The Velodyne AudioProduct Support Team"that is what I got when I tried to return the item!!
