yes, it has (8) camera channels, but only comes with (4) cameras.

Q: I have 4 camera and a 4 prong splitter with a power cord but the 4 cameras would have to be 12" apart with this short splitter. Whats wrong.

You should have 4 long cables, like 50 feet each, with power and video plugs on each end of the cable. One power and video of the long cable connects to the camera and the other end connects to your power splitter and to your video input on your DVR.
