The World Atlas of Whisky: New Edition

Subtle aromas of knowledge... a hint of paper... 99 points. ;)
This is not an in depth analysis of whisky producers or styles. For that I would recommend adding "Tasting Whiskey" by Lew Bryson to this text for a better evaluation of styles and regions. This text alone serves as a wonderful, though broad view of the world of whisky. There are sections on whiskies from Taiwan, South America, Australia, and so many other places where whisky is produced - though gladly the text devotes little to these regions other than a mention of a few producers and a look at the region. No, instead this book focuses on Scotch, Bourbon, Japanese, and Canadian (and US whisky other than Bourbon). I found that the section on Japanese was just right while I think Scotch and Bourbon could have used more pages. That being said, the section on Scotch is quite thick... but there is a lot of Scotch out there! And so many of the distilleries are very old with tons of history. And whisky truly is about the actual distillery more than anything else. But that is a small nitpick. The book is massive and there is a ton of reading and some wonderful photographs. And the book typically focuses on the standard products for each distillery rather than get into the rare and specialty bottles. Some distilleries do have notes for the rare bottles or specialty such as Aberlour A'bunadh, others such as Glenmorangie and Macallan highlight the more standard bottles available in market. But if you or someone you know loves whisky, then this is a wonderful addition to a collection. This and a bottle of Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or makes for a lovely present. ;)Highly recommended. And check out the aforementioned 'Tasting Whiskey' as well.

Very informative
I wouldn't say I am anywhere near an expert in whiskey (or whisky), but I do know a thing or two. I found this book to be very informative and overall enjoyable to read. It would be good to have if you own a bar, as you could enlighten guests with some knowledge about where the specific drink is from, or how its made, or the history of the brand. Would recommend to any enthusiast.

Seriously, THE Whisky Book You Must Have On Your Bookshelf!
This is an incredible book on whisky. Admittedly new to learning the language of whisky (but not new to drinking whisky ;-)), Mr. Broom has provided me with several new ways to verbalize what I could only internalize (no pun intended, okay, maybe accidentally) before. And the breadth of whiskies included is overwhelming. I can only cry knowing now that I missed the boat on buying Japanese (yes, Japanese) whisky before it became very, very expensive. Finding my own personal whisky and comparing that to the description Mr. Broom gave for those from Japan, well, I only hope that my tears didn't ruin those pages of my book.Great book! Also definitely a great gift idea for someone who really enjoys and has an interest in whisky. Scotland, whisky, and golf--coincidence? I think not.

Get this book if u drink scotch.
Cool coffee table book but mostly covers scotch distillers as spelling of "Whisky". I wish he would of cover more about distinct tastes of each region in more detail and facts. Has tasting notes is helpful and grouped. Book is large and heavy. Each whisky should have facts instead his stories. A lot of it I couldn't read and found boring. I don't drink scotch but I drink bourbons and that section was small. Buy it used to save $$.

Great Information and Very Useful When Considering a Purchase
This really is an extremely helpful and well written book. Cannot recommend too highly. But only if you a really interested in learning more in-depth information about individual distilleries and their distillation methods. The back index of whisky by taste types is also very helpful. as some persons like only certain types of whisky.Fortunately he does not write as if every distillery is great, and while not denigrating them he is neutral which is fair as some are just getting back on their feet, or simply were never designed to be great but simply good standard producers.

Just when you thought you knew all there is to know about whiskey…
Bought this for my husband who is a whiskey connoisseur. He’s visited numerous distilleries and attends all the whiskey fairs around the country. Struggling to find a book he hasn’t read but he couldn’t put this book down, said it was absolutely fantastic. Full of facts he didn’t know and interesting stories of the history of whiskey
