TB 4 experience
Thunderbolt 4 works well on my Gentoo linux systems. The dock firmware is very smart at managing bandwidth and only exposes what's being used to the pc. It gets hot to touch while using 10GbE but it's built well and functionality is unmatched by any other competitors. I couldn't get 4k 240hz working with another QHD monitor and 10GbE, 120hz was fine and I'm sure it was due to lacking a thunderbolt 5 host pc.

Unusable. Wait for fixed firmware or recall.
The dock is unusable. Constant resets, even with the latest firmware (version 61.1 as of August 9 2005). The latest firmware seems worse than the one it shipped with (60.1)Allegedly this is due to overheating, in particular when the dock is charging the computer or 10G Ethernet is in use, but I experienced constant resets even after connecting the computer to the factory power adapter, and disconnecting the LAN. Also, the dock does not feel hot to the touch.I hope they figure this out. Meanwhile I am reverting to my TS4.

Work in Progress review
So I’m gonna start off by saying this review is a bit early into using this especially since my setup I’m building is still work in progress.First the port options in this thing are amazing. The 10GB Ethernet is great. And the design and layout are amazing. The only downside, is the power brick is massive. Understandably so, this thing has a lot of power running through it. But just something to consider if your limited with space.

Coil whine, freezes when switching between laptops
It gets quite warm, about the same as the previous CalDigit 4 Pro — tolerable. I have a 5Gb Ethernet network, and it easily delivers all 5 gigabits without any issues, but… occasionally it either squeaks or whistles, not loudly, but just enough to be annoying! I’ll give it another chance — if this whistling becomes constant, I’ll return it.Update 1:After two weeks of use the noise hasn’t gone away. Now I think it’s coil whine. I lowered my rating from 4 to 3. Such a device is impossible to use with that noise. I only have two monitors and a speaker connected. What kind of super-duper powerful device is it if it starts squealing and whining with just two monitors and one speaker connected? I tried disconnecting the Ethernet, the speaker, and another monitor. Even with only one monitor it still squeals. So I assume it squeals regardless of how many devices are connected. It’s infuriating. I’m returning it and buying another. I still haven’t given up hope that it’s just a defective unit. I like the idea of the dock station with a 10-gigabit Ethernet port, Thunderbolt 5, and so many other ports. I’ll give it another chance. If the other (new) unit is just as noisy, I’ll return it too and stick with my CalDigit TS4 Pro, which didn’t make the slightest noise with the same connected devices. Its only drawback is the 2.5-gigabit Ethernet. I’ll wait for other updates—maybe someone else will release a good device with a 10-gigabit Ethernet port. I’m not willing to put up with this noise.Update 2 (+1 week):Updated the firmware to the latest version 61.1, coil whine is the same, very noticeable and annoying. A new bug appeared—when switching between two MacBooks, the dock just froze, the power LED started blinking and nothing connects, I had to restart the dock (unplugged and plugged the power back in). This never happened with the TS4 Pro, and this is exactly how I use the dock—I have two MacBooks, work and personal, and I connect them to the dock one after the other. This bug completely makes the S5 Plus unusable for me. Waiting for a new unit, hopefully this is just a defective dock. Minus one star.

Functionality is fine but unpictured external power supply is a big negative for me.
This seems to function fine with a 10Gbps network, M4 MacBook Pro, two studio displays, and a bunch of usb-c stuff. I'm getting full bandwidth, charging, and no visual artifacts. BUT, it's got a giant external power supply which doesn't show up in any of the photos and really lessens the overall ergonomics of this device. Apple can fit a full power supply and all the same hardware, along with an active fan, into a Mac Mini chassis, which is about the same size. I don't know why this thing needs this 1037g docking station needs an additional 640g charger.

Does not work with Windows
Does not work with Windows Thunderbolt 4 laptop. Known issue that's being complained about on Reddit. Works fine for Mac, but need it for both.
