Masahiro Setagawa has been having problems. His dad's gone, his mom's apathetic, and the local delinquents have turned him into a lackey and errand boy. Rescue comes in the most unexpected form, however, when a street fighter known as "Bear Killer" puts the beat down on the bad boys and takes Masa under his protective wing. The surprising part is that Masa already knew his rescuer, because not only is Kousuke Oshiba the older brother of Masa's best friend Kensuke, he's also Masa's homeroom teacher! But with so many ties between them already, is it surprising that Masa starts to feel more for Kousuke than a normal student teacher relationship? Math class will never be the same once Masa realizes that the numbers in his stars are all adding up to one person in HITORIJIME MY HERO!

tugs on the heartstrings...
A wonderful heartwarming story about a young high school boy, Masahiro, who grew up in a broken home. As a kid he adores his best friend's older brother who takes him under his wing and becomes his 'hero.' As he enters high school, his 'hero' becomes his math teacher. That's when he begins to discover he has a deeper affection for him - but he's flustered about his possible same sex attraction, especially after learning that his 'hero' feels the same way as he does - and that inexplicably his hero had earlier rejected him, claiming he could never return his feelings. But that all gets turned around and becomes quite complicated when they both begin to realize that this teacher-hero could lose his promising teaching career if others should find out that they are lovers. Out of deep fear and love for his 'hero', Masahiro decides it's best to break off the relationship, but is devastated by his own decision. All in all this is a touching story with moments of hilarious incidents, tenderness, deep sadness but most of all the thrill and anguish of first love - and the real 'hero' of the story is revealed at the end. For this type of genre, this was one of the best that I've seen...highly recommended! As a postcript, I would say it's wothwhile to view both versions - the Japanese vocal and the English dub. The English subtitles that go with the Japanese vocal do have different translations in English of of the same scenes, especially the most sensitive and critical scenes. In my opinion, they make more sense of the dialogue and what's happening between Masahiro and his teacher than what you get in the english dubbed version. I'm guessing that in the english dubbed version they were going for the overall effect of the story throughout the whole series , rather than in the single episodes. It's not a bad thing but sometimes it can leave you with the wrong impression of the dynamics going on between the two main characters but also the others as well. It's worth checking out. By the way the english cast did an excellent job, especially the one who did the voice of Masahiro.

Love it
Just like with most anime, the manga is still the best. I really enjoy this series. It makes me laugh. The anime is good.

High School Confidential
A high school teacher and one of his students fall in love, and as I kept watching, waiting for the explosion of moral panic around them to go off, I began to relax and enjoy HITORIJIME MY HERO as the swooningly romantic series it is, a show about starcrossed lovers busy creating the biggest obstacles to their own happiness. Both moody, blond Masahiro and his best friend, jittery Kensuke, are slow to recognize love when the men they're destined to be with re-enter their lives, but what's a BL anime without the driving force of mixed-up emotions? I liked watching the way adult recklessness collides with teenage paranoia; there were plenty of comic moments in what's primarily a romantic drama. The English dub -- and kudos to Sentai Filmworks for providing one in the first place -- is fantastic.

Amazing
Such a good series đ if only it was longer! I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. The moment it came in I binge watched it twice. Fully sealed, no damage or scratches and the discs werenât floating around in the case.

I adore this little show
The Blu ray is very nicely put together with pretty images and it looks great on a big screen. Both the original Japanese and the English dub are well done - I've watched it both ways. I prefer the English dub slightly, because the Japanese occasionally translates a little awkwardly in the subtitles, but the Japanese voice actors have gorgeous voices. The show itself has quickly become one of my favorites, even though there is nothing in it that is amazing. It is shounen ai (m/m romance) - so if you're opposed to that sort of thing, here's your warning. The main pair also has a fairly large age gap (12 years) and are now teacher/student - so there's that. What's nice about this one is it avoids or goes lightly on the usual tropes that most shounen ai/yaoi stories seem to include. There are stolen kisses and mental manipulation - the two seme ("top" or more controlling) guys have to almost knock their love interests ("uke" or submissive) on the head to get them to figure out that they return the feelings - but thankfully there's no, "rape him so he realizes he's gay." Both semes actually announce how they feel and then allow the other to think about it and choose to move forward with the relationships. The teacher/student age gap thing is addressed, though since they knew each other long beforehand it's not a weird power-dynamic, and the younger starts to realize that his older boyfriend sees him as an equal no matter what their ages are.And talking of seme/uke, by the end you see that both relationships are healthy and well-balanced. Kousuke is older and more experienced so he naturally takes the lead, but he's always encouraging Masahiro to match him - he wants a partner not a love-slave. And while Asaya is a pouty manipulator, Kensuke ends up very bossy - they are very playful and make a nice compliment to each other. There's nothing more than kissing here, with some innuendo that more might have happened off-screen.All in all, it's a sweet romance with loveable characters, healthy relationships, typical romance clichés, and real emotions that come across. There are fun moments and touching moments and sad moments. The animation itself is very pretty to look at, though the movements can look awkward (characters running look especially silly). The plot is a bit strangely put together at times - please note that Masahiro's hair was red when he was younger and is now blond - but never enough to be totally confusing. The opening and closing songs are nice and their animations are fun. The rest of the music is nothing special but gets the job done.

Very good! Awesome!
I love this movie and i am caught up in the manga now! But i'm watching it and curious to know if they are mixing books one and two together or not. I shouldn't compare but i like them both. The manga obviously goes longer. So if you can read that. The product is good. No complaints. I am watching it but cd's are good too.
