microwave restoration project
I got this microwave for £10 when I collected a second hand freezer on ebay. The landlord who sold it to me said that his tenants had taken to boiling their water in it and hence the terrible rust. i imagined I wold be able to find a few paint options but this one was the only paint for the inside of microwaves so i bit the bullet and begrugenly spent over double what the microwave cost me on the small can of paint. i spent a couple of hours going at the rust with a Dremel and afterwards hoovered it out and then wiped the inside down with some paint thinners on a rag to remove the rust. I applied the paint outside in a number of thin coats to get a good key and warmed the area with a hair dryer between to keep help speed the process along. i used most of the can on this project but it went further than i thought. in some areas the paint is incredibly thick as i was using it to build up thickness. once finished i left to dry outside and then brought it into the house and left the door open on the microwave to fully harden over two days before using it. Im very happy with the outcome. the colours great, coverage is great, its a little tricky to spray in the confined space of the microwave. its been a8 weeks now of use and its looting perfect. dont worry about the reviews regarding the paint not setting, this was likely due to thickness of cotes without curing in between, be patient and make sure you give the can a good shape between coats and i think you will be fine.

Works as intended
It really works. Saved a working microwave from bin.Be sure to properly scrape the old paint with a wire brush, and then even out with sandpaper. To the raw metal. Do not leave any bubbles etc. Make sure the original enamel left is sturdy. Then apply two coats giving first time to dry.

Come on, you really didn't expect it to work? :)
Didn't work at all. Wanted to preserve the life of my microwave but, to be honest, it forced me into getting another one. We live & learn & i wasn't really expecting all that much anyway.

Microwave cavity spray
The inside of the microwave was rusty. Looks brand new after applying product as instructed. Don’t through your rust appliance away.

Paint still not hard after 5 days!
Despite preparing the microwave like other reviewers here and shaking the can vigorously for a few minutes I had an entirely different experience regarding a successful application. The Microwave still reeks of chemicals 5 days on and the paint after 4 days still hadn't dried hard (It was touch dry but replacing the tray and roller I found the wheels ( focused weight) sank into the plasticy paint. And this was after 4 days! Maybe it's a bad can or a terrible product but I reckon the microwave and paint isn't going to last very long if the rollers themselves are already damaging the paint. I'm going to see about a refund and new microwave.

Have no doubt
It’s almost impossible to see the area repaired even though I did the repair myself.
