My eyes are better opened to the drug industry now....
Stefan Lay, I applaud you for writing this book. As stated in comments on your YouTube videos, I was ONE day away from picking up my prescription of Accutane from the pharmacy when I decided to do some internet research on the drug; I am sooo glad I stumbled across your YouTube channel! After watching all of your videos concerning Accutane, I honestly felt soooooo bad for you and the problems you now have because of this chemotherapy drug. It makes me sick that this had to happen to you.I, myself, believe in nature being the source for finding cures also (I am also a Christian and believe we have more than enough resources out there because a smart God put it all together) so I was very cautious after being prescribed this drug, which brings me to a funny point: your story fits my story to a friggin T my friend. I started on topical antibiotics, worked for a while but the acne came back; next took oral antibiotics, worked for a while but it all came back; finally, I went to an actual dermatologist (my normal doctor was prescribing me all these)and sure enough, the first thing she said without even looking at my previous try-and-fails (I think) was "Accutane. The boy needs Accutane." She made it seem so obvious to go through with this drug! It was like I was stupid for not using it before. My acne is also exactly how you described how yours was 6 years ago...And then... I find you and your story. THANK YOU! I was so mad when I couldn't read your book because all I had was a Nook, but I finally went so far as to download the Kindle app for my iPod touch and read it all the way to chapter 6 and finished the "Conclusion" chapter in the morning. All the stuff that you have to deal with now... ohh man it makes ME feel like crap. For anybody reading this review besides Stefan, let me say this man is going through hell because of a drug that was meant to kill cancer. Also, let me say what this book has done for me:1.) After reading with my own two eyes the proof that somebody who went through EXACTLY what I am going through NOW, I feel so much better about myself. I now know that there are things much worse than acne... Drugs are NOT the answer! Acne is NOT WORTH RISKING YOUR HEALTH!2.) I want to be healthier overall; I want to eat more natural and use more natural cosmetics3.) When I'm an adult, I can share my wisdom with my kids and make sure THEY are not taking unnecessary drugs like Accutane. If I had gone through with taking Accutane, without researching it, and somehow didn't have side-effects, they certainly could get obscure side-effects if they were to take it. I can see myself telling them "I took it when I was younger and I'm fine". I now have the wisdom to know the difference. In conclusion, thank you my very British friend for doing this for me. You could have saved me from years of problems. If you're ever feeling like there's no hope, I would be more than willing to talk to you (message Aingu5 on YouTube), and remember: you ARE making a difference in people's lives by sharing this truth. I am now a faithfull subscriber to your channel and hope to become internet friends with you hahaha! (If you want)Peace,Angus Beefcakes (my internet alias)

Stephan -- Has saved more lives than any dermatologist. A pioneer in the fight against Accutane.
I can only say I wish I'd seen and read this book earlier, before it was too late. I took accutane in 2013, when recent "research" "proved" no link between accutane and IBD -- I was told all the "myths" were nothing more than mere rumors and fear-mongering. I trusted my doctor, and it was the biggest regret of my entire life. Accutane absolutely devastated my health. I wish I had seen what Stephan wrote and spoke about accutane, but my doctor told me to trust him and to not go digging around the internet for baseless rumors.Stephan is a true pioneer in speaking out about accutane. Up until 2012, there were basically no victims publicly speaking out about the permanent devastating effects on national television, as Stephan did (if only I saw it on time). For decades, the damage caused by this drug has been downplayed, gaslighted, dismissed, and covered up in an absolutely criminal fashion. Nobody was brave enough to come out and speak about what accutane did to them. Stephan was truly one of the first to write a book, air on television, and speak on the media. Please, if you are thinking of taking accutane, listen to Stephan. Imagine what it would be like to be a 16 year old child who trusts their doctor and has absolutely no idea what kind of devastating impact this poison could have on the rest of your life. Stephan is speaking out to save your life - do yourself a favor and listen to him. There are multiple facebook groups, as seen in the images posted, for victims of this horrific drug. If you've been hurt, you can find us there.

Thank you
Interesting account of your experience. Could relate to some of it. Hopefully something will come our way one day that will clearly be the healing agent. God bless you.

Accutane changed my life...for the better!
I LOVE Accutane! It cleared up my horrible acne and I didn't have any problems. All of you should not be discouraged because of one person's misfortunes. We all react to drugs differently, but I am an AVID believer in this little pill! It was a miracle drug for me! God bless!

Honest and informative
The new ebook Roaccutane: The Truth, by Stefan Lay of Norwich, United Kingdom, offers an honest and informative view from a patient's (or should we say victim?) perspective on the side effects of the acne drug Accutane (Roaccutane in the UK and Europe, generic isotretinoin) which I have written about previously on this blog. Stefan writes clearly and informatively about his own situation, which sadly is paralleled by many other people. Given Roaccutane for acne that had not proceeded to the stage of potentially scarring cystic acne, he was initially eager to get rid of his acne at whatever cost. In retrospect he realizes that he would have been better off to have stayed away from this potentially toxic drug, which he points out is used to treat cancer, and is therefore a chemotherapy agent. He describes his research and personal experience with depression, suicidality, dry eyes, sexual dysfunction, bowel disease, and liver damage. I recommend this book for someone who wants to validate their own experiences with the drug or to get a quick overview of side effects, which unfortunately the medical community has failed miserably to provide information about. He also has some entertaining and informative videos on Youtube you can view here.Doug Bremner, author of The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg: Accutane, the truth that had to be told

Thank You
Hi stefan, just wanted to let you know that I'm literally scheduled to start accutane in a few weeks. My dermo appointment was yesterday, where they drew my blood and warned me about possible birth defects if I were to get pregnant, etc. Because of your videos, I decided to buy your book tonight. I read it beginning to end and have decided not to take accutane. Just wanted to say thank you.

Great Book
Started reading this book this morning and haven't put it down. Really interesting and well written in a very straight forward way. Quite a heartbreaking story and I applaud Stefan for writing this book. There may be lots of people who use this drug who are fine but I have no reason to doubt Stefan's problems link to the drug. From what I've heard he's not the only one. My son has been offered this drug and we have gone through the visits to the dermatologist exactly as Stefan describes. My instinct has been not to use this drug and Stefan's findings confirm to me that it's not worth the risk. Well done Stefan for writing this book and well done Amazon for including such a different book in its book list. Highly recommend this book. Not just for those people who might have a problem with acne but for anybody facing on going challenges with health. Would be very interested to read how Stefan gets on and hope he does a follow-up book.

Every Parent Should Read This Book!
As a sufferer of the poison Roaccutane myself, this was a very painful book to read and yet it brought me hope and encouragement to know that there are others like me who are getting the message out there and exposing this toxic substance for the evil that it is! I respect Mr Lay immensly for having the courage to write this book and for sharing such a personal story with the world. Especially when it is a story most people are just not interested in hearing.

very informative no nonsense book!
Very informative no nonsense book! I can definitely relate to some of the side effects in this book, I would definitely re consider taking another course of Roaccutane through personal experiences and more back up evidence from this book. However I accept this may be the only option for young adults when they're suffering extremely with Acne, Minocycline has also proven to be effective for me and I would always recommend seeing a good private dermatologist over the NHS who just carry out standard procedures.

I would like to review the book and tell my story
First of all sorry if I make some mistakes English is not my first language. I would like to review the book and tell my story. It is a good book and I find him quite brave for telling his story. I would have liked deeper information on how he felt while taking accutane and all his symptoms.I have been affected by this drug too. My acne was cystic and this treatment worked for me straight away, all my acne disappeared as soon as I started with this drug. I suffered from EXTREMELY dryness in my face but especially my scalp, it was horrible however I continued with the treatment because my dermatologist said after accutane all that dryness would disappear but it didn't and also if I didn't take the medicine for a minimum of months my acne would come back.As I result I lost so much hair and I will have to wear wigs for life. I haven't suffered from any health problem (at least not till present day, fingers crossed) but accutane left me with chronic issues such us:- horrible dryness on scalp and face. 9 years after, the dryness in the face is controlled by creams but the one on my scalp there's no way to get rid of it- the redness never went away and I developed rosacea. All my body tans apart from my face- sensitivity of the skin face- intolerance to heat. When it is hot in a place or the heating is so high I get extremely red and a burning sensation, it is really uncomfortable.I agree with Stephen that this drug doesn't leave your body one month after stopping the treatment, it stays in your body for weeks, months and even years after depending on how much dose you took. I also agree with him that dermatologists do not tell you all the side effects and they don't give you so much information.I do not think however there is a solution for cystic acne apart from accutane. My acne was so bad and infected that nothing else would have worked I'm sure about that. Do I regret taking accutane? No, because for me all these side effects are quite bad but nothing compare to having acne. I regret however taking it longer that I should when it had already worked so quick and I would have taken a lower dose because it works exactly the same and I wouldn't have been left with these chronic side effects. Sometimes it is better to follow your instinct than listening to your doctor. Only you know your body and you know what it is normal and it's not.The last thing I would like to add to finish is that nobody told me that I could have chronic side effects for life I was told that after the treatment all would disappear. That is not true. It should say on the leaflet that at least some people will be affected for life by this drug.
