I just googled SAN plastic from the description part on amazon (Made of high-strength, break-resistant SAN plastic) The following is from the google search"The Most Difficult Plastics to Recycle" Content of this search is below: "Plastic No. 7 This is the last category that includes “other” plastics. Products containing number 7 or numberless plastics are often made from a variety of resins. The “other” plastics include styrene acrylonitrile (SAN), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polycarbonate (PC) and nylon. SAN and ABS are food and drink safe, but PC is capable of producing harmful chemical compounds. Unfortunately, these mixtures make these products undesirable for recycling and forces number 7 and codeless items to go directly to the landfill. Yes. They’re made for use in restaurants...they are most certainly dishwasher safe.

Q: Why don't they come clean i the dishwasher? There is always some debris left behind. We need to soak them for days before the dishwasher.

I honestly don't have that issue with mine. Wash in the dishwasher all the time. Perhaps you should contact the manufacturer. I use mine daily and haven't had that experience. Mine come out spotless.

No, they do not have lids. They are very simple, plastic "glasses". They are really small---smaller than they appear in the photo.
