Origin8 Classique Sport Quill Stem, 1" Fork Diameter, Silver

I am so thankful someone (Origin8) is manufacturing this product. I've been updating a lot of components on a vintage 90's road bike. I've only had the bike a few years and I really like it but it's come down to it just being too aggressive. The old stem is low rise with a 120mm reach. On straights it's ok but in tighter traffic on the drops or even on the hoods the fulcrum center over the front axle makes it very sketchy and hard to turn quickly or nimbly. That and the reach is just too much for my back and neck which causes pain. It's really amazing what less than 2 inches up and back can make. Now the geometry is super comfortable, I experience much less back/neck fatigue and it's much more nimble and controllable when I need to turn quickly or sharply. It was a small price to pay for breathing new life into an old bike. I also took the opportunity to double wrap my drops (bonus).

Very solid and functional. Raised my road bars a little without being ridiculous. I first tried a 225mm Nitto on my road bike but it was *way* too high. Nitto didn't sell a medium height so I got this Origin 8 instead. It has a slightly more agressive downward angle than Nitto's, and is definitely not as polished and shiney. However, it fit better, and looks totally period appropriate for my 1980s steel frame road bike. Seems to be of decent quality.

Nice tapered design is similar to vintage Belleri stems which had an art deco look.The extra height of the 180mm length is helpful for bar positioning.The "laser etched" logo and 8 branding is easily removed in a few seconds with #0000 steel wool.Takes on a mirror finish with a little aluminum polish(Mothers).

This is a 22 mm ( small) quill. Don’t be fooled by 25 mm size. This is 7/8 inch OD where it fits in. I inch must be the OD of the front fork. The ID is 22 mm where it fits in. Since there is no way to measure the fork OD without removing it from the bike it is a poor way to identify the size.

I got this stem to rebuild this Trek 1100 which i got from a friend, the stem that came with the bicycle looked super crappy so i got this one to enforce the "Classic Look" and put on some Pista drop bars, so far so good

As the headline says, it's nicely priced but that's about it. It features an inset bolt so you can't see it which is nice. The problem is that it's not as shiny as I thought it'd be which takes away from it--especially if you're rebuilding a vintage bike as I was.

Happy that it came fast, sad that it looked like it was scratched hard in one spot, no intention of going through the hassle of sending it back tho, piece seems solid, have trusted origin 8 and have been satisfied so far

Not flashy, but will get a bike on the road for cheap. I've bought a few and had no problems

Beautiful classic look. Sturdy. Why the seller charges S&H on every single item they sell? It makes me that they are the last resource if I can't find else where.
