Q: How do you change the batteries on the FL1700?

You just unscrew the end cap, opposite end from the light lens, and insert the batteries. Good luck. This light is quite bright, my backyard is 130' x 200' and it almost lights up the whole yard.

Q: Flashlight dies when using freshly charged rechargeable batteries. Has anyone seen the same happening ??

I use rechargeable batteries as well and are having no problems. Please remember that all rechargeable batteries are not created equal. You may want to check the specifications on your battery and charge. I am using a quality lithium battery with high amp/hour rating (1500 charges) and matching charger with automatic trickle charge. Hope this helps. Also check for debris in the flashlight that make short it out.

Q: What is the diameter of the flashlight ??

I didn’t measure it, but it takes C batteries, so the diameter is roughly between a C and a D battery maybe 1/4” wider then a C battery.
