1996 Dodge Ram harness wires are set different doesn't work at all when connected what is needed here

No clue…..what is probably the issue, is they didn’t have cargo lights/parking light option on a 96…..try tying two wires onto one

The reverse light is not coming on for me. Any ideas? All I have is brake light.

This is a brake light and a cargo light. It does not come on when the truck is put in reverse. If the cargo light is not coming on, check the connector for voltage when the cargo light is activated inside the cab. If there is no voltage, you have a wiring problem. Again, this light does not come on when the transmission is put in reverse.

Does this need a resistor?

It is plug-and-play. Just plug it in, install the mounting screws, done.
