You would have to add servos as well and brace the body for the higher torque. Your best bet is to buy an electric spider kit with a plastic frame and all servos and components included.

How many rubber bands are attached to each hook? Is it 16 total for the model?

It has one for each leg that is cut from a larger rubber band. 8 total... they are stretched around the end of each leg.

Do you have to cut the pieces out or do they snap out?

They snap out, although you do need to be careful. There is also a tool provided to help with popping out pieces.
