Q: I've got an 11, 9, and 6 year old - any thoughts if they'd be able to handle the mechanics of the game without getting bored?

Ours are 5 (not reading yet), 7, and 9 - they love it! The 5yo usually wanders off, but he picks someone to "play with" and we read the cards to him so that he can be included. The 7 and 9 year old are OBSESSED! We also play a lot of games, and they picked up the game mechanics super quickly.

Q: Is this different than Unstable Unicorns, or same type rules and gameplay?

Similar with expanded rules. There's more than one way to win (build a full party, or slay so many monsters). The Neigh cards are gone and replaced with challenge. Now you actually have an opportunity to win the challenge (by way of die roll). It's not just unicorns! Each class is represented by a type of animal (bears, canines, felines, unicorns etc.). If you like Unstable Unicorns you'll enjoy it!

Q: Can the leader cards fit in toploaders?

I do not believe so. The leader cards are a larger size than the typical card size.

Q: can be played with the 2 expansion at the same time?

yes you can play with both expansions at the same time. I believe it was intended to be done this way.
