Good alternative to liquid bleach, but dissolving takes work
This is a great alternative to liquid bleach for home disinfection and sanitation. However, the powder must be fully dissolved to work. You should also use testing strips to confirm chlorine strength and use strength-guidelines provided by the CDC or other reliable source. The recommended strength of 100 ppm noted In the directions were too weak for our purposes, but we were able to reach 200 ppm simply by doubling the amount of powder. We also had trouble with dissolving the powder into water as directed. We solved the problem by adding the powder into a smaller amount of hot, running water, followed by vigorous mixing with a wire whisk, and finally adding cold water. Beware that the hot-water solution will be extra strong, so if you do this, take extra safety precautions. This method will also produce suds, but these should subside after a few hours.
