I'm new to this - what does this pad do exactly and what other bits do I need to cut the thin dies? Sorry if this sounds too basic.

I'm new too but I found I needed this pad for embossing folders, for the thin dies I just use the pads that came with my machine. I have noticed that these become marked with the cutting of dies which is why I purchased the impression pads for embossing. Hope this helps but as I'm still learning too you might get more info from someone else.

Do I need these to cut fabric with please?

No you don't. You can cut fabric with all the Sizzix original dies and the Bigz dies with the normal cutting pads.

How do I obtain a returns label for unwanted goods

what is the width of this pad please ?

The pad is 14.9cm wide, in inches it is 5.875. This is just short of 6 inches wide. It fits on the Sizzix platform comfortably. Hope this helps.
