Swingline Compact Electric Pencil Sharpener, with Battery Power Option (29965),Black

I don't sharpen pencils but my kids do and they are happy with this Swingline sharpener.It's probably worth noting that the battery is only an option, not the main power source. Unless you're on the road the sharpener is going to stay plugged into a wall outlet but it's good to know that, come a hurricane or a blackout, the battery option is there. By the way, you are going to need SIX AA batteries.What we like the most about the Swingline is its being a good pencil sharpener. We also like its shape/design, its quiet operation and the battery as an alternative power source. It's easy to maintain and clean and it performed well so far.Absent any defects it's a five-star rating by default.

The inner box was not only not sealed but was fallen open as well as the Styrofoam protection, I don't think this happened in shipping because the sharpener was full of pencil shavings, I did not expect a used item, but it works very well so I'm ok with it. I blame the seller, not the product. I think the people who said it didn't sharpen things just didn't push the pencil in far enough as there is a switch the pencil has to get to in order for the device to turn on. Also, if you push it in as far as it will go, it produces a perfectly sharpened pencil, I just went at it with a 24 pack of ticonderoga hard #2.

I have been through soooo many sharpeners and this one is the best. My kids are constantly sharpening their pencils and it works. It doesn't shut down or burn out and it is easy to empty. This also sharpens colored pencils which can mess up other sharpeners. Also I received this product 2 days after I ordered it, and that was standard shipping !!

I ordered it as a new product but received it with pencil scraps still remained in the container. The pencil sharpener stalled after I sharpened 3 pencils and needed to empty the container for restart. I contacted Amazon and received my refund. I do not recommend "BestSource Stationers" as the reseller and I am not sure the the low quality Swingline Compact Electric Pencil Sharpener is due to the manufacture or the reseller. The refund process was done by Amazon chat and it took about 25 mins for less than 10 conversations. I think it was little long since the representive didn't inform me what he was doing on the other side and just left me waiting. I will definitely shop with Amazon again for the refund policy for this incident.

We purchased this pencil sharpener in Dec. 2010 and it stopped running this week (July 2014). While it did technically last 3.5 years, for that 3.5 years it rarely adequately sharpened a pencil. It only sharpened pencils at an angle, leaving wood on one side and lead on the other. I had to try and wedge the pencil in the hole at an angle to get it to sharpen the wood down on the one side. This would almost inevitably end up in a broken lead. The only reason I owned it for this long is because I am stubborn and won't throw away something I've paid for until it dies.

It works ok I am not sure I would buy another one though

This pencil sharpener works great. The last sharpener I had kept breaking the lead while sharpening, but this one sharpens quickly without breaking the lead therefore saving a lot of pencil. It is pretty quiet, too.

I gave this to my girlfriends son who is 9. Him and his little bro, 5, love to sharpen everything. They had tons of dull pencils around but no sharpener, not anymore. It works great. Love the fact that you can use batteries instead of AC outlet. Great gift.

Got this for my wife who was nursing a broken tibia plateau and took up adult colouring books. Made sharpening multiple pencils a breeze. Works well. We've come a long way since the crank pencil sharpener in the classroom decades ago!

Very good. Only drawback is little space for pencil shavings.

This is a really great sharpener!I have found that it sharpens pencils evenly and consistently with the same result every time.It is much faster than a manual sharpener and it's not too loud.It would be nice if the pencil shaving containment portion of the sharpener was a pull-out drawer that came out from the sharpener rather than having to remove the shaving cover and shake out the sharpener over a waste bin. With that said, the unit is very light and portable.I use this sharpener with my Prismacolor coloured pencils and it sharpens them quickly and beautifully.

If I could give a negative star, I would. We've had two of these sharpeners sent to us and have had to return both. They don't work. It's not that they don't sharpen well, it's that they don't even run. We tried the electric outlet, the sharpener gives one "whirr" and stops. We tried batteries. No motor action at all. It's as though the power pack in the electric adapter isn't strong enough to run the internal motor. Batteries can't run it either.I'd like to be able to charge the company for my time. It takes time out of my day to prepare the package for shipping and taking it to the post office.
