Allary Chalk Cartridge Set (3-(Pack))

Ok, I am going to address the handful of issues the other users mentioned here. Regarding my knowledge of usage and materials behavior: I paint, I draw, I sketch, I sew, I bead, I do paper quilling and stained glass, have worked with wood much, and do/tinker with/or spend much time doing several other arts, crafts and playing music. For the past 40 years. So that goes to say I can tell the difference in quality of most arts and crafts products, and have acquired a large inventory of products over the years, in variety and purpose.Regarding this one:A: Only the WHITE sticks are actual CHALK. The colored sticks are the same material as coloring pencils lead, of the waxier type.B: IF you are looking to mark fabrics with the colored sticks but want the markings to disappear, DO NOT use this product. As I stated in A, the colored sticks are waxy. The markings will not wash off. You're better off using the kids' sidewalk chalk, or the regular sized colored chalk from Crayola, or Rose Art, or whatever generic brand chalk. I have had no problems marking my fabrics with these, including my wedding dress.C: Regarding the breakage. Keep only about a quarter of an inch (or about 7mm) of the chalk's tip exposed. This will maintain the pressure fulcrum supported inside the cartridge. Same concept as with mechanical pencils and with regular wood pencils: If the tip is too long, it will break when you put pressure on it with your hand and try to slide it across the surface. And some people (like me) use naturally more pressure than others to write.D: The white chalk looks great, just like regular size chalk, on the blackboard, for smaller, detailed designs, writing, etc.E: the pencil sharpener that comes with it works great! It sharpens the sticks to the perfect size. Be careful not to introduce the stick too far into the sharpener or it will break at a point where the most pressure is being applied (usually a slight curve created by the twisting/turning). Chalk is not meant to curve, at all! The waxy tips may have a little curve-tolerance, but still very little at shorter lengths. Hope this helps.

This set made writing on my chalkboard a breeze!I wanted to write song lyrics on a small chalkboard I purchased on clearance. Regular chalk was too big to be detailed but this worked great!I love the holder for the chalk, and the sharpener worked better than I expected.I was not concerned with erase ability, as this was for a display, but I used a magic eraser and it wiped off another board I had without incident.

So this does what I need and is mostly as described. However the back of the product calls out "WARNING: This product contains lead and other chemicals known to the State of California to cause birth defects and other reproductive harm." I don't see this called out anywhere on the description page. At this point I had already opened it and it is too late to return it so I will use it until I can find a good replacement.

This has change my chalkboard sign-making life. :) Haven't tried the colors yet, but I so appreciate the holder as well as the sharpener for creating thinner lines and more detailed lettering/images. It is a little more oily than regular chalk, so some residue is to be expected. And I would recommend using a real chalkboard (or a surface painted with chalkboard paint) rather than the shiny, glossy kind they sell at craft stores these days. But overall, I love this tool!!

Picture needs to be updated! Also, packaged better! All the colored chalk broken. I'm hoping it works ok? I bought this for the colored chalk! Also bought another (same pen) with all white, not one piece of that was broken, hard plastic case! FYI it was broken upon arrival! I didn't even have to try to remove packaging without breaking - it was already well broken! Updated 02/02/17 Even using the whole pieces of white - this is so NOT worth the money or frustration of trying to use it!

I purchased this set for detailed work on a cafe menu chalkboard. It accomplishes exactly what I need it to do and from what I've seen after two months without erasure, does not appear to leave any oily residue behind which might ruin a chalkboard. The chalk holder holds well without chalk movement and is quite necessary for these skinny pieces of chalk.The sharpener works, however does not get the chalk to as fine a point as I would like.The packaging seemed quite solid to me - all pieces arrived unbroken.Update - 10/10/15 - After a summer's use on chalkboards, the colored chalks did leave permanent marks in a few places. The white remains erasable.

Ugh. Broken colored chalk just like the other reviews said. The white is fine. The chalk def breaks easily. The chalk holder is NOT THE SAME AS PICTURED. So disappointed. I wanted that one. I looked around to get that exact one and it’s really not worth my time returning this and hassling with ordering from other places and to pay way more. This will do.

So much yes! Exactly what I was looking for. Note: I am using this on wood chalkboards, not fabric. I had to move extra root storage into my hutch seeing as our pantry is too small to do the job. I wanted a 'chalk pen' to write what was in each bin and I'm so glad I found this one! It's perfect! It writes and erases very easily.
