even better than the 1st, sets up stage for an amazing 3rd book
I read the first book, because it was free. I really liked it, a very interesting take on God and Satan from the Bible, but with a sci-fi setting. There were some issues with the first that made it less than perfect, but I liked it enough to actually support the author and pay for this one.I've seen complaints about pacing here, and repetition, but I personally think that neither of those are issues. The flashbacks for Lucifer really help to flesh him out better as a character, and she even manages to cause you to feel sympathy for Jamin, which is a task I would have thought to be impossible. Additionally, the relationship between God and Satan has become much more complex and interesting, and the 3rd book should be pretty action packed. If you even only liked the first book a little, I HIGHLY recommend you get this book- I think that you will find it to be a large improvement, has more action, and better character development. The cliffhanger it ends on? Pretty epic...

4 stars but with some caveats
The style continues to be excellent in book #2. The phrasing, structure, word choice, etc., makes it comfortable to read.My challenge with book #2 is the number of sub stories going on. There are so many concurrent sub plots that I found myself jumping ahead (which I almost never do). The flashbacks of Lucifer I found distracting and not contributing as much overall as I expect the writer(s) expected. I have a feel for the characters, their roles, their contributions, etc., and maybe all this background will become more useful/valuable in future books. Will I purchase book #3? Yes.Did I enjoy it? YesNote: There are multiple descriptions of sexual interactions which are tastefully done but don't pull any punches. So, if you are uncomfortable in that regard beware.

Great book to get your teeth into! Leaves you wanting more answers
Now that Brigadier Genera; Raphael knows that his best friend is alive, he must search for him in the uncharted territories. It can be a bit daunting keeping up with the sub plots that come alive in this book. The village of Assur and its enemy of the nomadic tribe that flirts around its boundaries. The deals that Jamin makes with them, although he is still not Chief. The flashbacks that let us know more about Lucifer give us a better idea of where he comes from, and what could possibly go wrong. I like that the hybrids are taking care of their human mates. The stories of the sub plots add to the complexity of the book and make me wish I could be everywhere and see it all happening! Of course the next best thing is to read the book and see how everything is resolved :)

Building Erishkigal's Universe
Erishkigal's excellent world-building and character development continue in this continuation of her epic series. Character on character, conflict upon conflict, she proves she has what it takes to immerse and addict a reader. A must for fans of space opera and a treat for anyone who enjoys good writing.

What a fabulous book and well worth reading !!
I wasn't sure that I was going to enjoy this book, but boy was I wrong. This is a fabulous story and is completely mesmerizing. With all of the intriguing characters, from the Emperor's for the "good and bad" to the spliced animal and human DNA characters, this book is hard to put down. I really enjoyed reading this book and ended up staying awake all night. So if you're interested in a story that will keep you guessing, from the first page to the last, I recommend this one highly. I really want to thank the author, Anna you have a great imagination, Please keep writing, cuz I promise that I will definitely read more of your books.

Amazing Series
I have read all three of the Sword of the Gods twice. Great fiction writers build a world of people and places that you don't want to leave. I didn't want to leave this world and eagerly await more stories.I am anxious to read more about Gita.I cannot recommend this series enough.

Challenging to convention
You only think you know Lucifer! We really get to see what is going on in his god-like head, how he has suffered, and why he does the things he does. This series is SUCH a good twist on modern religions and really gives one something to think about, if one is open minded. The writing is excellent, well edited, overall, I can't wait for more from this author. She needs to stop being a lawyer and write full time!

Universe created
The universe Anna Erishkigal built is peopled with Angels, gods, dragons lizards and all manner of beings including humans. What I liked was the political back and forth that pops up. After creating all the creatures and cultures I feel like I may cry when the series is done. With her imagination and the varied "folk", I am hoping for a long run!

Interesting premise
Good pacing and a nice mixture of genres. I think this is the second in the series. There's a huge space saga that at it's heart has events in a little stone/bronze age village playing a crucial role. So to sum up many layers, good characterization and nice pacing.

A book that you can't put down!!
You could not leave the story where the last book finished. The imagination of the author is incredible, and the detail in the description makes me no longer see the words on a page, but the story being acted out in front of me!!
