What is the difference between this gp70ns50 compared to the lg gp60ns60? need external drive for surface book 2 with win10pro.

I have the Hitachi-LG GP70NS50. It's excellent. The difference between the GP70NS50 and the GP60NS60 is that the more expensive GP70NS50 has automatic slot loading for ease of insertion & ejection of the disc. Present the disc to the front and it glides it in and does its thing. Push eject button on the front and it glides out neatly from the slot automatically. In a nutshell it works like most CD players in cars. The GP60NS60 is cheaper by almost half and has manual loading which I find fiddly on other CD/DVD drives. For the GP60NS60 you hit eject and physically snap the disc in the tray and shove the cassette back in, then it does its thing. That's pretty much it apart from the GP70NS50 is new to the market. Please note that the GP70NS50 is an imported peripheral. But it doesn't matter in truth as it works just dandy by putting the USB into the laptop - there's no mains lead to worry about. At time of purchase (April 2020) this piece of kit wasn't a UK over-the-counter available item. But you could get it from Amazon UK. It just means the support for the drive is on the international Hitachi-LG support pages on the web. You wont need them. It's really easy to use. Plug and play. Please note, you DON'T need the Power2Go software on the installation disc that comes with the drive for it to work. To use the drive just plug in via USB and use Windows Media Player. You will have complete functionality if you are ripping music discs. In my opinion, the Power2Go software is flawed. It has very limited use for ripping music CDs (it won't rip to MP3 or FLAC but will to WAV). You can get extra functionality but you have to pay to get the latest version of the software. The disc is just a teaser of what you could have and the pop ups let you know this. Very irritating. I installed it, then removed it. It's your choice if you want to pursue software that's not essential for the drive to work and spend the extra £££ for a Pro software suite. I run windows 10 on a Surface Edge Pro and this works a dream with it. As there's only 1 usb port on the Surface edge make sure you have a bluetooth mouse otherwise you'll need to switch dongle with the drives lead. Build quality is decent (note it's not aluminium but plastic), it's light and fairly quiet. It's far, far superior to the cheap Chinese drive I bought and returned earlier in the year which was flimsy and prone to regular disc errors ripping original music CDs. Purchase the GP70NS50 with confidence. It's worth the extra if you will be loading a lot of discs in/out over the day. It won't scratch them either. Smooth mechanism
