The Monocle Travel Guide to Madrid: The Monocle Travel Guide Series (Monocle Travel Guides, 5)

pretty good
This book is 4 years old, but i took it with me to madrid 2 weeks ago. I went to a lot of the recommendations, the first food pick was terrible, but the others were good. Yelp might be better as a food guide based on dietary needs. I found the museum list to be generally good, if time is limited stick to the prado and renia sofia, for the love of god just pay admissions, don't stand on a 1 hour line to get in for free. Buy the 3 art museum pass 31 euro buy at renia sofia or thyssen-bornemisza to skip the line at the prado. The metro pass day passes are worth it to avoid wasting time buying individual tickets, buy at airport metro upon arrival there is never a line for that machine. The recommended espadrille shop, #1 pick, is definitely worth shopping at, it was my only purchase. The pickpockets in Madrid are really annoying. 3 times in Madrid pickpocketed 2 times, and caught them in the act both times (women working in groups). Carry less stuff, no backpacks, and close on you. Pretty sure they have look outs on the street, or the police are taking kickbacks, because they are never scared or run when caught. Don't let this stop you from going or having a good time. This is not the same thing as getting mugged or shoot at in USA, both of which I have gotten to experience or being harassed to death in Luxor.

Where to find the best gifts
You’ll need an additional travel guide for getting around, but these guides are perfect for the hip clothing store, the happening restaurant, and the cool place to stay.

Mediocre guide for fools
Shallow guide with fancy cover.

Not bad but not great
Contents are half-decent. Not a true travel guide but more of a "lifestyle" guide. Scant on information about the actual city.Binding leaves a lot to be desired. The bookmark is handy but otherwise, not the best guidebook. If you like nice photographs and you have expensive tastes this is the guidebook for you

Unlike any other guide book
Completely different to any other city guidebook series I have ever bought. Strongly recommend this book! Might even surprise locals with places they have never heard of.

meh
this book is super hip, but more like a magazine than a guidebook. there is no overall map and it doesn't give a sense of the big picture.

Just the cream
Really handy, but not bulky guide to Madrid from Monocle. Guides are often overburdened with information, but this one has just the right amount
