Q: does this work for liquid measurements?

Yes it does. I did find the plastic started to degrade after a couple of years so I did have to buy a new one at that point. But it did still work for everything but liquids. BTW-I love these. :)

Q: Can you buy the rubber slider separately?

I am not aware of being able to do that... I would not buy this item again - in addition to the rubber slider deteriorating, the metal surfaces corrode!

Q: Are they dishwasher safe?

No, mine degraded in the dishwasher

Q: does it measure 1 cup?

it does not measure a cup and, although you did not ask, i would not recommend these items. i found similar items at wal mart that were plastic and each cost under a buck. the plastic is holding up like new and i use these daily in my restaurant.
