Has anyone had a problem with a bad smell with this unit? It smells as if the plastic is melting.

I bought mine in November 2018. The first time I plugged it in and made the first test run, there was only a slight plastic burning smell. Afterward, there was no smell.

How much power does this Bunn consume keeping water heated all the time?

My wife ask this question, so upon receipt of our new BUNN BT Velocity Brew 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Home Coffee Brewer I measured the electric power consumption using a 'KILL A WATT' meter. The following are measured results: initial heating of room temperature water inside the reservoir took 14 minutes and consumed 160 watts; leaving the brewer turned on after initial heat up consumed 530 watts over a 17 hour measurement period (doing the math this converts to 31 watts per hour or approximately 750 watts per day). Bunn is the only coffee maker manufacturer left in USA. The entire commercial line is made in the USA, the retail versions are assembled in the USA.

Is it possible to brew a partial pot?

Absolutely, but the minimum they recommend is 24 oz which is 1/2 a pot. This is typically what I brew each morning. Fills a good size travel mug with just a bit left over.
