Beka 07901 Yarn Swift

Update: After I wrote this review, I decided to take the swift apart and try putting it together again. This time, I'm not sure what I did differently but I was able to get the dowels to stay in place!I have had a Beka swift for five years and loved it. The first one broke -- human fault -- and I replaced it. But the new one is unusable. The base didn't tighten down the way the instructions called for and the dowels won't stay in place. I have been too busy and I didn't save the packaging, otherwise I would have returned it, it's a total loss. I hate that because it's a US company and made in the US but I have to find another alternative.

Although this product is nice, it wasn't very easy to assemble and one of the small sticks that holds the yarn did not fit properly and I had to add some tissues to hold it in place. For the price it would have been nicer if it were totally functional on its own... IT takes up LOTS of room to store and to put together... I'm kind of sorry I chose this.

I purchased this to replace another yarn swift that sits on a table top, but wasn’t made as sturdy as this one. It took two people to get this one put together because I needed at least two sets of hands to hold things together until they were screwed down, so it’s not a swift that I can set up and take down after each use- I’ll have to leave it set up since I live alone and don’t always have an extra set of hands around to help.It worked smoothly, but yarn did have a tendency to pop off the top before i was done winding it. It’s something I’ll have to Watch closely as I wind it-

Missing parts PLUS COUNTERFEIT PARTS, but charged more than advertised, plus shipping +tax. Go to the beka company TO ORDER DIRECT, not yarn expressions. By the time I get done rehabing this with new parts it was missing would have been cheaper, and more reliable new, not "like new" ... INOPERABLE AS IS, missing 3/4 rubber feet, water & sun damaged, cracked & warped, incorrect parts causing it to wobble & fall apart midspin!

I like the idea that this swift is sturdy. My friend put it together for me. It’s good. I just wonder where I am going to put it after I’ve successfully made balls of my entire stash.

easy to assemble; real wood; great price and product for beginning knitters on a budget

The wood parts are not smooth - catches and breaks my yarn. Return of the item is difficult.

I own a small custom dye shop for a specialty yarn--which tends to be very curly. This swift has changed my life! It's just wonderful. Like having four extra hands. And yes,the instructions say to not tighten it too tightly--but if you don't, the dowels aren't held tight enough & won't stay in place. I also had to take it apart & tighten it, and then it worked perfectly.
