Exotac fireROD Ferrocerium Fire Starter

Product itself is pretty nice. I like having storage for one guaranteed fire on hand inside the ferro rod. However my qualm is with the seller. Item in picture shows different color O-ring than is received. The instructions inside the box also say there is an included shock cord which there is NOT. Comes with 1 extra O-ring (black) and small cordage. If it came as pictured and with shock cord as mentioned, 5+stars. I am a stickler for "as advertized," so only 3 stars. Should Exotac make fix, i will brag to anyone and everyone the functionality benefits to other styles of ferro rods. Me likey this one functionwise. But the drapes must match the curtains over in this house....petty, i know.....but i look good doing what I do, whiles i duz it. HahaPrompt delivery. Easy to replace ferro rod. Throws a spart nicely. Would recommend to all.

Why do you guys refuse to answer the question about the colors? Every where this product is advertised has the orange o-ring on the gun metal fire starter.. Mine is black, this is false advertising, and im not the only one who has had this problem.. This thing is super small also, really no point in having a place to put tinder because you can barely fit anything in it anyway.

I am very pleased with this item. The quality of the construction is excellent and the details built into it are very smart. There are two main features that stand out. The first is that the Firerod has a small watertight capsule that will hold enough tinder to get a fire going. I have a small piece of fatwood wrapped in a length of jute twine. Second, the ferro rod portion unscrews from the handle and can be replaced. The replacement rods can be ordered from Exotac and are reasonably priced. I ordered a larger size rod and kept the original for practice and as a backup (I uploaded a photo with the original rod next to the larger size rod that is available). It fits great in the ferro rod loop on my knife sheath and that means it's always with me when I'm in the woods. These things are a bit pricey, but for what you get, I think it's worth spending a little extra.

Top notch firesteel ! Superior quality. The capsule part of it is made of aircraft aluminum and will hold a tinder quick or a half of a cottonball . It comes with a spare o-ring, so you can have confidence that your tinder is not gonna get wet. The firesteel is a good quality ferocium rod that is not soft like the cheap ones , which will last ALOT longer. Throws showers of sparks and is easy to operate. Has textured grooves on the outside of the capsule for a good grip while striking. When you do use it up , just get online and order the replacement rod. One end is threaded so you don't have to buy a whole new unit . If your looking for a good quality firesteel that you can rely on when the shtf and your life is on the line, then look no further. Great product you can depend on.

Excellent Ferro rod. I'm very pleased with the quality, design, and construction of this product. Two really cool things are it has a compartment in the handle to store things, like fire starting material or water treatment tablets, and the rod itself unscrews from the handle so it's easily replaced with the standard 2.4" length rod or you can get an extra long 3.1" rod.

Lot smaller than you think. Doesnt work as good as other rods I have used, the painted surface makes your first strike very bumpy and that gets worse and worse as you strike it more. Kind of like a bump on a dirt road eventually makes a rumble strip. It's the same length as my baby Gerber folding knife so I have it lashed to that and I store it in the sleeve pocket of my hunting jacket.

Great fire sparker fire steel fire striker fire match ferro rod WHAT EVER you wanna call it. It is well made, works good throws sparks every where likes its supposed to,made in MURICA and has a compartment in the top to keep some tinder quick cotton or the like. Its sealed with a orange washer and they even give you a spare one, very nice of them. Great quality.Will buy more.Oh and you can buy replacement ferro rods when you use it up.

Pros:Thoughtfully designed and well made.Waterproof compartment for tinder storage.Comes with an extra o'ring for the waterproof compartment.Threaded ferro rod that can be replaced when necessary.Fits perfectly in the sheath of my Benchmade Bushcrafter and retains securely with the bungee paracord that I used instead of the standard paracord that came with it.Cons: (admittedly these are nitpicky)Box that it comes in is a little too fancy and elaborate and likely adds unnecessarily to the price.I would like the waterproof compartment to be just a little bigger.

Fast delivery and a brilliant made product. Used it to replace the fire steel that comes with the TOPS BOB knife, its a perfect snug fit in the Kydex sheath.

Acciarino di qualità. Bello il cappuccio dove si può inserire dell'esca. Unica pecca il fatto che nn ha niente con cui si possano fare le scintille e serve avere quindi con se un coltello con dorso con spigoli vivi per poterlo usare

Sehr guter Feuerstahl. Genau die gleiche Länge wie ein Victorinox Huntsman. In dem verschraubbaren Deckel kann man ein wenig Zunder mitnehmen. Mit dem Schraubgewinde lässt sich der Feuerstahl problemlos austauschen.

Con el tamaño que tiene, es muy útil para complementar tu multiherramienta al ponerla en los laterales de la funda (leatherman).
