Rugged case turns your iPad into a laptop
I was looking for a case for my iPad that would also hold my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard as well as the charger. I am a fast typist, so I feel handicapped with the onscreen keyboard that these touchscreen devices all have. A keyboard is a *must*. But then I had the problem of trying to juggle the iPad and the keyboard. I'd put them together in my backpack and the keyboard would turn on and start typing when some other item came in contact with a key and I'd find my iPad locked because there had been too many password attempts. ARGH! This device contains both very nicely and then holds the iPad in a nice viewable position while I type. LOVE IT! It is very durable and handy. Everything I need is right there. I have a 4th generation iPad and it fits nicely, albeit a bit loosely. Ideally, this case would come with a sleeve so that the iPad fits snugly in the case and doesn't bounce around inside when the case is closed. Probably if I had one of iPad's thin sleeves that would do the trick. I already spend money on this case, though, and hate to think about spending more money on an additional sleeve. Another cool idea I had was that I wish this case had a smaller external case (but attached) for an iPhone. You can certainly fit your iPhone inside this case, but you wouldn't ordinarily do that, because if it rings, you'd have to open the case and take out the iPad and keyboard in order to answer your phone. Pelican, if you are monitoring these posts, please consider this. Also, it has a storage area for the charging cable, but nothing to hold the cable in place. So it would be nicer if there was a little velcro that you could fasten over the top of the cord so that once you coil it up, it stays put. But remember, we want to store the cord in the left or right storage space, because the center one is the only one that will fit the iPhone. Thanks for a great case and hope that you keep them coming for future devices!

THE IDEAL TRAVEL CASE
If you like to take your ipad with you every where you go, this is the case for you. Pelican's reputation for high quality rugged cases that protect delicate equipment is carried forward in this case. The design is well thought out and implemented. And if you own an Apple bluetooth keyboard then it doesn't get any better than this. There are other cases that may be better suited for air travel as far as providing space for extras, but if you are concerned about physical damage, moisture, or dust, then the this case is excellent in that regard. I have a new ipad (3rd generation) with an Apple Smart Cover and Belkin Snap Shield attached and it fits perfectly in the case. I carry an Apple keyboard that this case was designed for and find it very comfortable to type on without removing it from the case.. I can carry the AC charger, cable, camera adapters, HDMI adapter, and a s tylus without crowding the storage space under the keyboard. With alll these items inside, the case weighs just barely over five pounds. As one other reviewer had experienced, this case gave off an extrmely strong chemical odor when I opened it. I left it open in the sun on my dedk for 4 days and the odor is almost undetectable. I suspect that the glue that bonds the insert to the hard case had not properly cured.Several non-essential improvements to the case would be welcomed. A padded carry handle for those times when you don't want a strap flapping about. Rubber inserts in the feet on the bottom of the case to keep it stationary on slick surfaces. And, probably most importantly a cutout in the padded insert so the ipad Home Button can be pressed when the ipad is used in the portrait orientation

Great Case, Slightly Impractical
This case is great for transport of Ipad, keyboard, charger and possibly a pencil. Very little interior room for anything besides what's noted. At some point I plan on cutting out some of the space under the keyboard for better storage, but havent gotten around to it yet.Case is VERY strong, and pretty sleek.I certainly miss that it doesnt have a built in carrying handle. It gets awkward carrying it around like a purse all the time. To solve the problem I weaved the shoulder strap through the loops and back around to create a shoulder strap and handle, but this makes the strap a bit too tight when slinging over my shoulder.I wish there were an option for keeping a tougher case on the ipad while it was inside the pelican (Pelican says that there is enough room for a Smart Cover on the ipad, but unable to test as I do not own one), as sometimes I like to hold the ipad. It is a hand-held device after all, and I'm fairly clumsy.I've had a problem with this case not sealing. The top half of the clam shell seems to be bowed a bit and not allowing the o-ring to seal properly on the sides. It's probably my individual unit, as I know for a face Pelican makes amazing cases (this case body has been oft real world tested, it is only the specialized insert that makes this specific to the ipad scene). This isn't a huge problem for me, or won't be after I take advantage of Pelican's no B.S., no questions asked guarantee of utter awesomeness.I have, however had a problem where on two separate occasions (once while donning the shoulder strap across my body, rambo style, and once while removing), the latch has caught and opened the case. Out flew everything. This included my ipad to kamakazi into both bricks and concrete. Thankfully, the only damage was dented corners on my keyboard and ipad. Both still functional. (well, they keyboard's power button was stuck in because of the dented case, and I had to cut away part of the metal to release the button) That could be called user error, but the case would have benefitted from some sort of retention strap or clip that keeps the ipad in place in case of accidental opening. (I think I'll add one)Overall, I like the case, but sometimes go weeks without using it. I'm glad I bought it, but it could be better. But it definitely could be worse, as well.
