King of the Hill - The Complete Fifth Season

Another great season of America's less known other animated family
It is very diappointing to know that this series isn't well known all over the world as much as that other family, you know, the yellow skinned family, with the naught boy whose name starts with B and finishes with a T, and his father who loves dougnuts and says D'Oh!! all the time. Now i live in europe, so i don't know much about American Culture, but after seeing five seasons of King of the Hill, i must admit that i have come to know more about America and i have huge interest in America and how the americans live and what they belive and stand for. Thank god that they are finally releasing this series in Uk. Maybe it will finally get the attention and huge praise it deserves.I noticed that the animation has improved slightly from the past seasons, and that certain continuity lines are still carried on, like for example's Nancy and John Redcorn's break up, with John Redcorn trying to tell Dale and Joseph about the truth of Joseph's real biological father, or Hank's father, Cotton, and his new baby son.I really love this series, but the reason why i am not giving this dvd a five star is because there are certain episodes which seem to be the same like others from previous seasons, for example Bobby wanting to do something which his father doesnt approve of and end up agreeing with each other, or Peggy doing something shamefull and trying to make up with hank etc etc. There are some original stories but it seems some stories have already been told. For fans of this series i highly recommend this dvd, and for new comers i suggest you start with the fisrt season. i am sure that you will agree with me that they are better than that other animated family.!

Buyers Beware!
I like some of these episodes of King of the Hill, but I've had to exchange some of my seasons three times. The placement of seasons 3 through 6 in the disc holder are damaging the discs. My first order of seasons 1 through 6, except 1 and 2 had quite a bit of damages on the discs. The discs are all two-sided, but seasons 3 through 6 had the last two discs on top of one another. This produced alot of scratches and smears. My replacement set of seasons 3 through 6 came in. The new sets of seasons 3 through 6, except season 5 came in three different dvd holders with a little scratches on some of the discs. It also shows on the box the different episodes and pictures on each discs. Season 5 does not. Season 5 came in one attached dvd holder with cheap plastic that flaps the discs around as before, and had the same damages on the same discs. When are these companies going to learn that skipping on quality to save a dollar never makes sense. Look at the time and money that have been spent in receiving and returning these items. I hope that the last season 5 I receive will be in better condition than the other two. If not, Amazon says I can receive a refund after returning the dvd. Four stars for the show, but 1 star for the poor quality of packaging along with two-sided discs turnouts by these companies.

Still Very Funny
King of the Hill isn't timeless but it's pretty close, and Hank Hill is quite a bit different from most sitcom dads. He's not insane, stupid or lazy, but instead competent and dedicated to the point of being boring.

Great Audio / Video
Basically it's a camo horse fiber mesh lightweight blanket. Cheap and practical, but it smells like a horse hemp hay blanket. I aired it out in the backyard for 2 weeks and it still smells. If you plan to use this for hunting, wash it and hang dry for a month or here wont be a deer within 200 yards of you because it reeks.Aside from not being able to get rid of the hemp smell, it's meshy so it allows air to flow through and you can barely see through it if you pur your face up close to it. You cannot see through it if your more than 5 feet away so it works well enough for hunting after you get rid of the smell.I use mine for my tree stand. I use office clips and I clip it around my tree stand for extra cover. When I'm finished it's easy to unclip and take down. One side has camo

Great show for anyone into comedy
Such an excellent show, one of the best-of-all-time in my personal opinion. Filled with laughs that address the times it was made in, it can be appreciated by both adults & children alike. Anyone who grew up in the 2000s should have an appreciation for this show which brings a level of nostalgia to the table. Written, produced, & directed by some of the same people responsible for the American-version of the "The Office," if you like this show, you'll love "King of the Hill."

Not so pleased with the product itself
I am assuming few people would be looking at these DVDs if they weren't familiar with the show, so rather than commenting on "King of the Hill" itself, I will base my review on the product. These DVDs fooled me and my two brothers for quite awhile, as it wasn't immediately obvious that the discs are two-sided. This is frustrating, as the only way to identify the disc is by the tiny circular print around the hole in the middle of the DVD. So if you feel like you burned through these way too fast, chances are there are episodes on the "B-side" you haven't seen yet! Also, this arrived with the plastic of the DVD case ripped in the upper right corner. I didn't mind enough to send it back, but I was a bit surprised to receive a new DVD set in that condition.Bottom line - if you enjoy "King of the Hill," you'll take the A-side, B-side thing in stride and be very happy that you added this DVD set to your collection!

The downfall of Luanne
I'm gonna be honest, after this episode, Luanne's character became more of a dim bulb. I liked it better when she accepted having sex with her former boyfriends and not being all preachy with religion. She was a bit smarter back then. Still, this is a good episode with Peggy admitting she slept with another man before Hank, though they kept rubbing in the abstinance message in which annoyed me. Hey Hank, before you get all pissy on Peggy about what she did, remember Mono?

Excellent Show, Shame About The DVD
I have been a fan of King Of The Hill from the first series, when it was on Channel 4 on a Friday night - in college my friends and I would watch it, and laugh at the antics of Dale, Bill, Boomhower and of course Hank Hill, the man of the house married to Peggy, a temp teacher with attitude. There's also Bobby, their son, who likes to dance around, be funny and hang around with the neighbour's kids. This show is very funny, and very different from Family Guy and The Simpsons - because it's not trying to be funny, but accidentally is funny; Hank just says something and you'll laugh, though Dale really is just funny - his crazy theories are just laugh out loud funny. Of course, the show wouldn't be what it is without Bill Dowtree acting like a loony, and Hank's father, Cotton is mad!Louanne is also very funny but very dim, some really good episodes involving her were in series 5, and they're some of the best I have seen. This series is very funny, episodes like the one where Hank moons a senator, the polling station episode, and the one where Bill has a Christmas themed home nearly all year round are just hilarious - and yet there are more sombre moments, like Hank crying, Cotton not being able to cope, and post natal depression, so yes, Mike Judge does try to include some rather sensitive subjects, yet doesn't shy away from them with comedy but tries to tackle them head on. Hank's belief that George W Bush is the best is funny too, and he's very Republican in his attitudes and doesn't really fit in with modern values. This is a stark contrast to Homer Simpson, who is immature, just like Peter Griffin, but this doesn't mean I don't like them, I love those shows, it's just King Of The Hill has something special those don't have, and it's nice to see something outside the usual anime circle. There's also a lot of celebrity voices in this show, which is cool, even Renee Zelwegger gets a role in this, and the episode with Snoop Dog was so funny. This DVD is not so funny though, no extras, and some of the disks refused to work in my player. I found out later it's due to the mastering; they won't play on hard disk DVD recorder units! So I have to watch them on another system, but at least I could do that. There are no commentaries, which is disappointing. This is quite poor compared to series 1 and 2, which were great. Also I am feeling rather annoyed at the decision to cancel making the rest of the series (6-13) on DVD due to poor sales. This is a disgrace. Also you have to see anti-piracy messages on all disks, I think we got the idea the first time round really.Excellent episodes, and kudos to Mike and the team, shame Fox has no respect for their work :(

Discs jump
Discs were rattljng about in cases even though the boxset was still sealed. Now we were watching them, a lot of the discs stick and we have had to skip multiple episodes in fear of it damaging the discs. They are clean and there is no reason they should be jumping so much.

King of the Hill - Season 5
A Christmas present for my son who is a fan of the series and has the other four dvds. Very funny series for adults. Reasonably priced and sent in time for Christmas. Well done.
