Spyderco Chinook 4 Folding Knife - Black G-10 Handle with PlainEdge, Full-Flat Grind, CPM S30V Steel Blade and Power Lock - C63GP4

Get it while you can: 4th rendition (and very likely the last) of an absolute classic Spyderco. I own the Golden Colorado USA Earth Chinook 3. It’s fit and finish is quite rough. Very thick blade. Thickness behind the edge extremely thick. Very solid (but easily actuated) back lock. Looks and feels robust and heavy duty.With that said, the slimmer, leaner 4 version gives up nothing in strength and hard use capabilities. This Japanese made Chinook 4 is slim and sleek but longer than the 3. Thinner blade stock & more “sliciness” to the blade geometry (still robust and not a chef’s knife by any means) and a sophisticated partial swegde along the top spine. Really nice sweepy, artistic proportions. I’m not super into Persian, upswept blades - just Chinooks. The 4’s Power Lock is much stiffer requiring more effort to disengage and no doubt extremely trustworthy. The distance from spydie hole to lock disengagement point is quite a stretch for easy one hand closing on the 4. Two hand or back of the blade against the leg may be the closing method for many. My particular knife came with very rough & gritty action. After hours of manipulation, surfaces mated and it’s now terrific. This Power Lock actually allows me to middle finger Spydie-flick open the knife (something I can’t do with any of my other back locks).After I placed the order for this knife, I wrestled with, “Do I really need another Chinook?”Knife arrived, “Yes. I absolutely needed this.”

Excellent blade for martial blade defense. The blade shape makes this knife an incredible slasher. But the knife is lethal when thrusting and the design will not only deliver a lethal thrust but it will continue slashing as it enters the assailant. Only thing I personally wish it had was jimping at the base of the blade for the thumb similar to the police 4. It comes with steel liners and the handle has a generous but solid grip. Highly recommend as they are discontinuing this model so grab it now!

Rarely has a Spyderco not measured up to my expectations, but this one I returned. To much money for me with a lock release that is antique, a blade shape that is more novelty than tool and besides, it weighs a ton. YMMV.

Thee perfect self defense folder that can also edc. Cant wait for the chinook 5! Being made in japan kinda gives me a samurai feeling too :)
