A little bit of knowledge is needed to fit this.
My computer case is not within easy reach from where I sit. I was looking for a way to be able to turn it on and off without having to get up from my chair. Yes, I know that’s being lazy! I spotted this simple little remote on Amazon and it fitted my needs perfectly.Fitting such a device is not for the faint-hearted and you do need a little knowledge to successfully install it. You will also need a spare USB2 header socket on your motherboard. If you don’t know what that is, then this is not for you.You have to insert the module into an empty USB2 header socket. Then trace where your power and reset buttons on your case attach to your motherboard. Remove those leads and reattach them to the pins on the module’s lead. Then using the plugs on the said lead and plug them into the motherboard. Doing it this way means the buttons on your case will still work.Once this is done and you’ve put the supplied battery into the remote, you are ready to go. If everything is done correctly, pressing the buttons on the remote will now control your system power and reset buttons. The range that the remote works will vary on your case design. If it’s all metal, then the range will be a few feet only. If your case has an acrylic or glass panel on it, the range will be a lot better. My case has a small acrylic window and I can operate the remote anywhere in the room and it works. If you don’t have a spare USB2 header socket, then all might not be lost as long as you have at least one on your motherboard. If the device already plugged into USB2 header socket is only looking for power, then you can use the supplied adapter unit. The adapter only replicates the 5V power and not any data lines.Overall, a fairly simple idea that works well and is very handy in this remote-control world we live in.

Great device, horrible remote
Installed and everything worked fine, however the remote was eating up batteries. Wouldn't last a week, even with premium batteries. Now the remote doesn't work at all so the item is pretty much useless. The website to contact customer support is all over the place, but sent a request anyway and got nothing. Don't waste your time.

Excellent device!
This little gadget is awesome! For most people it is something that they will not need but it is very cool to have. I found it very useful as at the present time I am not within arms reach of my PC so turning it on is as simple as using this remote (or resetting it as sometimes the case might be).Installing this was very easy. Just plug the device into a spare USB header on the motherboard. If you want it to face a different angle they include a splitter to do this (it should be noted that this is NOT meant as a splitter to allow multiple devices to be plugged into). From here, the Y cable included makes a quick job of installing. Plug the device cables for reset and power into the correct places and the cables from the front of the case into the Y cable and you'll be set. The tool to open the remote is included as well as a button battery. If it doesn't work just ensure you change the required settings in BIOS (instructions explain what you need to do although rather vague) and if it still doesn't work, look over the device to make sure the cable connecting to it (leading to the front case header) has not come loose, I found this cable to be very bad at staying in place and just handle the device carefully because it doesn't look very strong.Overall, it works perfectly and will be very handy especially for those who get home and can press this to boot up their PC (especially if it takes a while to boot) or have a wall mounted case.

A little bit unreliable
60% of the time it works every time.

great piece of tech to help me turn on my pc
this has honestly been a life saver for me being an item that means I don't have to stretch across my room to turn on my PC making it just so much easier

Over-priced, difiicult to install, messy and doesn't work with a metal case.
Very well presented and packed but just misses the mark on a number of points.Fiddly to install because some of the lead lengths. The Y lead, the leads after it splits is just way too short. I bought some additional cables. PWR and RST extension cables. Plugging these in to the motherboard these allowed me to take all the connections underneath the motherboard plate to the hidden area of the case. If the Y cables had been a little longer this wouldn't have been necessary. At the same time I discovered the plugs and sockets on the Y cable are sloppy. I used some tiny cable ties to hold them together otherwise there was a real danger they would separate. So a system builder definitely needs the cable ties. Fortunately the extension cables I bought were much higher quality and nice and tight so they didn't need them.I was disappointed to find that it doesn't work with an all metal case. If you look a the PCB its easy to spot the aerial. You need to solder a foot or so of very fine hookup wire to that to make an additional aerial and pass it out of the back of the case. Then everything works just fine.Oh and lastly you need to disassemble the remote to replace the battery (which wears out pretty quickly) and there is a tiny security screw holding the remote together. Seriously? Why a security screw?? They do provide a screwdriver but I can see people losing that! All in all it is a good product but it has failed on the last lap. The Y cable should be longer after it divides. It needs an aerial. The remote shouldn't have a security screw.Recommended with reservations. Only system builders need apply and be prepared to buy additional stuff to get it working.
