Did I read the chart right that this model can accommodate an AA-sized battery?

The military model uses a CR123a battery. There may be a model of this that DOES work with a AA battery, but I am not aware of the exact model number

Will the metal on this rust with saltwater?

It does list "Marine" usage as a market for this light. I have found that most screws on lights like this will think of rusting though, as they are almost all a regular steel. The pocket clip looks like fairly standard but tough spring steel that looks like a black oxide finish. I suspect it would consider rusting as well.Recommend calling streamlight.

Can this be attached to the side rail of a lightweight, modular tactical helmet?

The answer to that is a bit odd. Yes....no...yes. I have the ops-core, and what I did was take the mounting plate that comes with the helmet and attach it to the ops-core arc rail adapter. However, it wasn't anything like a direct fit. I had to dremel the helmet mount that came with the Sidewinder to get the two pinch-tabs on the ops-core piece to clear and still let me take it off.
