I’m LIVID!!!!
I am SO angry regarding the performance of this varnish!!! For starters it was thick and hard to work with - didn’t anticipate that so I didn’t have the proper thinner on hand - just had to work quickly and with LOTS of elbow grease to get an even, smooth coat. Immediately after putting on the first coat I had concerns as the finish was VERY shiny. I specifically ordered the MATTE finish to avoid that. After a little over an hour it was still very shiny so I assumed it would dull down after several coats and thorough dry time. I applied a 2nd coat. The following morning the finish was still ridiculously shiny AND now there were many ‘bumpy’ areas where the finish had either gotten gunked up or it raised the grain of the wood - I won’t know until I sand it down. Yeah, I’m going to have to sand the whole surface of the wood and start over with something else!!! I’m beyond PISSED OFF. I don’t know how other people got good results but I sure didn’t!!! You’ve been warned!!!

Good Varnish
I've tried many boat varnishes and as with most it takes a year to see how well they may hold up. I followed the manufacturers instructions and used this in a controlled indoor environment. Up to five coats a day seems possible but I don't really recommend more than three spaced out with more drying time. After five coats the finish was lumpy and needed to be sanded. I thinned out the final coat which ended in a nice looking smooth finish. My recommendation would be to thin out the first coat by 50% and the rest of the coats 25%. This isn't what the manufacturer recommends but with a consistency of honey I found it a bit thick to lay down a flat even coat. The plus with this varnish is that you can get a lot of coats in a couple of days rather than weeks with traditional varnishes.

5 Coats in one day - fantastic.
I made a wooden screen door that has a built-in doggie door, finishing it with TotalBoat. This is my first time using a brush-on exterior varnish (I have a couple decades of using wipe-on penetrating oils). When using TotalBoat I thinned it about 3:1 varnish to paint thinner; this seemed to work well. I tried a roller (but tipping with a brush), a moderate-quality bristle brush and a foam brush; I had the most luck with the foam brush; an expensive animal hair bristle brush may have been a better choice (but I am a cheapskate).I liked the idea of being able to apply 4 to 5 coats in a single day with TotalBoat. I applied 4 coats the first day, waited 3 days to sand and clean very well, then applied 5 more coats on another day, for a total of 9 coats on two days of applying the finish. The finish is not perfect due to my inexperience with brush-on varnishes, but the TotalBoat finish has a wonderful luster, has dried very hard and has a very durable feel to it. And the finished product looks very, very nice.

I recommend Total Boat Matte:
This stuff is a great finish! It’s the first time for me using it and I love it. I was going to use Epifanes varnish but I couldn’t justify the cost, so I rolled the dice with TotalBoat. I’m glad I did. I used a foam brush on my sample piece. I thought I would spray the end project but now I’m not so sure. You can’t tell it wasn’t sprayed. IMOI’m making a raised mobile garden using African Mahogany. The final finish will be 2 coats 10% Epifanes mahogany stain (killer) in 90% TotalBoat “Lust” Gloss. Then 3 coats T.B. “Lust” Matte (no stain). The test piece in the picture has 3 coats 10% Epifanes mahogany stain in solution 90% T.B. Matte. Here’s the bottom line…. It’s a test piece so no particular care was taken…… the results ….Looks Just Like the Pictures in the Brochure. Can’t often say that.

The look and feel of epifanes with the recoat time of polyurethane
A thick amber varnish that goes on easy if properly thinned as conditions require (the matching thinner is expensive but goes a long way). I've liked epifanes an the past, but the only problem with epifanes is that each coat takes so long to dry that you need days and days to finish with it. Lust feels similar going on but is tack free in an hour or two (dependent on weather). I'm working on a boat with lots of exterior woodwork and 4 hours from my house, so i need that rapid recoat time. So far so good; now the question is how will it last. Based on the sweet smell im guessing this is urethane based, so im a little worried about uv resistance.. we'll see this fall! Written June 2020.

Very happy with looks of my project
I'm not a boat owner. I used this product on a painting on wood that I wanted to hang on the side of my garage. Put on 3 coats of TotalBoat Marine epoxy and then 3 coats of Lust varnish. Looks great and I think I could throw the piece in the pool, ride around on it, pull it out and hang it and it would be undamaged. Was very easy to use and I am very pleased with it. Would cetainly recommend to others who are not professional painters/varnishers because it is easy, straight foward to use and looks great.

Item is not what is in picture
I thought I was ordering a gallon - look at the picture - and for the price, I thought it was a gallon also. Turns out I got a pint and I can't return it. 'It's flammable' and you can't send it through the mail? They sent it in the mail to me in the first place! A quart of Rustoleum spar varnish is apx $15. And I just paid $30 for a pint? What a rip -off . I can't even complain to Amazon. All I get is a 'bot.'
