We did A LOT of research on microscopes before we settled on these. We wanted something high quality for our teenagers but not crazy expensive in case our kids lose interest. They loved this scope! It was easy for them to use (just like they have at school), and everything worked like it was supposed to. For the price, we felt we got s very high quality instrument to last for many years. We also purchased extra pre-made slides by amscope so the kids had something to look at right away. They also had a lot of fun finding their own objects to look at under the scope. We are so glad we went with this model and didn’t go for the cheaper student models. This scope will most likely take them through college. We are very happy with our purchase

Dealing with russet mites in the greenhouse right now, and this baby is way easier to use, and gives a much clearer image than a field loupe. I was even able to identify a fungal infestation on the cellular level. The phone attachment is awesome once you can properly angle your phone.From beginners to seasoned users, this is a great steal.

The microscope came well packed and was ready to use just out of the box after adding 3 AA batteries to illuminate the LED. It came with a box with 10 slides, including a few pre-made slides and some blank ones. There are 3 interchangeable objective lenses of various magnification ( 4x, 10x, 40x) and 2 eye piece( 10x and 25x). Maximum magification is 1000x which can be achieved using 40x objective lense and 25x eye piece. Operation is simple and optics are clear. It requires a bit of patience and proper adjustments of light to focus at very high magnification, where image is sometimes blurry. I purchased it for my 10 year old to introduce her to the world of biology and get her hand on it, and my young scientist is beyond happy and excited to explore. I attached a couple of pics of the slides (out of many) that she made herself. Not only the materials but, every food goes through the lense of microscope before reaching her gut..:-)

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  This microscope is very easy to use. It does not take long for my 10 years old to learn how and begin to use it. The package arrived in well shape and the contents inside are well organized. Everything was easily located when I opened the box. No assembling requires. I was surprised that it is also came with 4 specimen samples to get me started to test out the microscope mechanism. The usage operation is very smooth. The focus lenses smoothly rotate and lock-in to position. I struggle bit at first when I tried to get a focus on the specimen with 40x lens, the lens is small, the specimen is need to be aligned precisely within lens focus. Best thing I like about this microscope is the smart phone mounting kit which I can place the phone camera and align it with viewing lens, so that allow me to video and/or take picture of a specimen under microscope. This mounting accessory best if use with lighter weigh smart phone. I get a bit struggle when using with my samsung s8 note due to weight but when I manage to mount and align the lenses, the small multiple sucker cups hold the phone very well. If have a kid who love exploring micro level this is a good starter kit.

This microscope is slightly better built than other ones I tried, the base and many parts are metal.The magnification of this unit does go to 1000x, you need to use a different eyepiece. Because that eye piece is a little shorter, the phone holder doesn't rotate downward all the way, but that's not really an issue. The phone holder is great, but you do need the case of your phone to be off unless it's a slim case with a smooth back.I'm not sure what the lights are, but there is top lighting and bottom lighting, meaning you can look through transparent slides and solid objects like coins. only either light source could be used, but you can easily mod it to do both. The unit runs on 3x AA which is just 5v, so it can conveniently be modded for a permanent power source.The lights are adjustable and there are color filters from the bottom light source.The knobs feel nice and like a professional microscope have 2 dials on each side for fine tuning.

I got much more microscope than I expected. I have an expensive microscope and compared this scope to my good one at the same magnification levels. Mine was hardly better in the image quality! This scope was not quite as sharp at maximum magnification as mine, but the difference was really small. The two lower magnification lenses showed no difference in image quality between mine and this one. Both gave sharp, crisp, clear images.As far as handling was concerned, the under stage light with dimming control and filters was very easy to use.Only problem in using the scope was in the use of the above stage light. It is a nice feature for viewing opaque objects , but it is useless once the stage is raised high enough that the lens barrel blocks the light. At low magnification levels the light is very handy. (With my scope I must use a flashlight for opaque object viewing.)It would be nice if the head holding the eyepiece swiveled so that 2 people could use the scope without moving the scope or the people.I did not have time to try the higher magnification eyepiece or the cell phone adapter, so I can't comment on them.The slide set that comes with the scope is a nice starter set, the specimens are well mounted, stained, and quite interesting.In all, this microscope was well worth the money and, if given to a kid who will take care of it, should last for many years.
