Addictive game form couples & groups - & I like the new design
This is a simple game with plenty of depth & different routes to victory. You can load up on the cheap level 1 cards to stock up to gain points later in the game or try to earn higher level point-scoring cards early on but with fewer cards. Scales well for couples & 3 & 4 players. Also, I prefer the new design of the cards to the original. So, excellent purchase for me.

Just one more go!
Recently picked up a copy after my Brother introduced me to it, great with 2 players even better with 3 - 4The game starts with three stacks of 'mining' cards on the table, and a separate stack of higher value noble cards with only 4 cards from each stack visible at any one time. Each round of the game the player can either buy a card or collect a number of gem chips (from a limited communal pool) which in subsequent turns can be used to purchase a card from the in-play 'mining stack'. these cards have a gem purchase value and a separate gem value of there own.Once a card is acquired it becomes part of your hand and its own gem value can be used in conjunction with the 'gem chips' to acquire better and better cards. Eventually the cards remove the need to pick up so many of the gem chips and it becomes easier to acquire the cards in the 'mining stacks'.The trick is to try and collect these mining cards and eventually acquire the more powerful 'numbered cards' that appear occasionally in the mining stack (a total of 15 points is needed for victory) . These numbered cards often have a high gem value so don't come into play till later in the game. Its about trying to balance between holding off buying cards by using your turn to either build up coins (to a limited total), or buying lower value cards to stockpile and eventually earn the expensive noble 'cards' (which can only be purchased with cards) and of course trying to block other players from taking a card. Players hands are visible so you can build a picture of what people are trying to achieve and react accordingly. Its much simpler than it sounds, and quite often the game will start slow but suddenly all players will come close to the victory goal within one or two rounds of each other as each player will suddenly be able to afford to purchase the noble cards and the high gem 'numbered cards'.Very easy to pick up but once you get into it you realise just how much depth splendor has, enjoy at your peril as that victory you had in your sights is snatched away at the last second.

Same game as the classic original
Great game. Original may be better suited for non-Marvel fans just for colour clarity of the tokens. Other than that this is the classic Splendor game that we love playing as a family. Nice game length of around 20-30minutes.

A great board game
We love this game! The game takes about 30 minutes to play, which is perfect for maintaining interest. It is a game of luck and strategy. Our grandchildren (aged 9 to 11) can play - and win - so it can be enjoyed by the whole family. It is easy to play but once you have played it a few times, you begin to develop diabolical strategies to beat your opponents. Beware, as it can become addictive and it can leave you seething with resentment when your opponent snatches victory just as you thought you had it in the bag!
