If you mean the entire top where the control panel is, then no, it can not be immersed in water. If you rinse the blade right after you remove the top, it will be much easier to clean and shouldn't require soaking. Thanks and let us know if you have any further questions!

can you make coconut milk with this machine?

Of course, you can! You can use about 4 measuring cups of shredded coconut flakes with water to make it. Use more or less depending on your taste and how thick you want it to be. Use the JUICE/CLEAN function for coconut milk.

Can you make raw almond milk - that is, without heat being applied? The photo of the top seems to suggest not - mostly "heated functions".

The handles are the only plastic components and they don't come in contact with the contents. The machine, blade and housing are all made of 304-grade stainless steel. It comes with some plastic accessories (pitcher, filter, measuring cup) but those are optional if you'd rather use your own supplies.
