(8" Skillet) A beautiful pan, be careful of sizing
This is my third cast iron pan. I decided to go with Lodge as they are considered a premium brand. My previous pan was a large (12") skillet but the quality of the finish is not great and the base is quite thin. This pan does not disappoint, the seasoning is good but the surface is quite rough (a side effect of modern pans). Although my experience with seasoning is that once I have applied a few coats of good quality organic flax oil and baked in that the roughness doesn't really impact the non stick properties that much, and after a period of good usage can fry eggs nicely. My one comment would be to be very careful on measurements. Some companies show measurements for the base of the pan, and some for the rim. The 8" lodge pan has a base measurement of about 6.5" and a rim-rim measurement of 8". This caught me out as this differed to my previous pans which were advertised based upon their base size - and I expected the pan to be larger. I recommend going to the lodge website for proper measurements, although whilst they show dimensions they don't explicitly show the base size - which if you are measuring for a specific hob burner doesn't help greatly.I will be buying an additional 10.25" pan (which I suspect has a base of around 9") as this is better for my intended purposes. I would recommend the brand though, it is head and shoulders above my other two pans in terms of quality.

I love Lodge and added this little beauty to my collection.
Lodge is King as far as I am concerned when it comes to cast iron cookware. I LOVE it and have even gone as far as paying over a ton to import a specific Lodge item from the USA as I could not buy the item here at all, anywhere. It was worth the postage and the import duty. Lodge never disappoints me and all my Lodge cast iron will outlast me. Its almost like a love affair, I take care of my Lodge cast iron so well, loving cleaning with my coconut brush (does not remove the patina) and lovingly oiling with pure virgin olive oil. My skillets, pizza tray, dutch oven all look even better and better with each use. Invest in Lodge and you will never have to buy that particular pan/pot/skillet ever again.I love my Lodge skillets and this 8" one is my latest addition to my collection. Perfectly formed, beautiful in use, glossy after oiling and food just cooks great, tastes great and never sticks. I LOVE this, seriously.

Reassuringly heavy & non toxic!!
I haven't used this pan enough to give it 5 stars but can report back on my findings so far.My reason for purchasing cast iron was, after much research it seemed like the safest option - I've been looking to get rid of my potentially toxic non stick pans for some time,The first thing I did when it arrived was to give it a quick scrub under running water then seasoned it twice using coconut oil. Seasoning is very easy - there's plenty of videos & advice online. I was impressed with the quality of the pan & the weigh is reassuring! The first item I cooked was salmon. I melted some butter with a hint of olive oil & once nice and hot, placed the salmon fillet in the pan. I left it skin side up for a few mins, then flipped it over. There was slight sticking but the fillet remained in tact. Once the other side had cooked for a few mins I popped it in the oven for around 5 mins. The salmon was beautifully cooked & tasted great. There was a bit of residue left in the pan which disappeared with a gentle scrub under hot running water. When the pan was completely clean I simply wiped it with a tiny bit of oil & put it away. The next item to be cooked was scrambled eggs - the eggs cooked beautifully but there was quite a bit of sticking which did require a hard scrub to remove. From my research (which I hope is correct), the more I use the pan the greater the non stick properties will be.Overall I believe this to be a good purchase... I will keep seasoning it regularly until happy with the non stick!

It's A Lodge -- What More Is There To Say?
Typical Lodge quality: this is almost a piece of art.Pre-seasoned, all it needs is a hot rinse and a wipe with oil before first use. Pan and handle are a single casting, so no rivets or machine screws to work loose. It takes a little longer to reach temperature than steel or aluminium, and the handle can get uncomfortably hot -- although you quickly learn to anticipate that.Works well with any heat source (apart from microwave, obviously) and I like that it's at home in a charcoal barbecue.Cleaning is a breeze -- just a hot rinse, maybe a short soak, dry and wipe with cooking oil. In just over a week it has built up a nice patina of super-non-stickiness. Nice.Just be sure to avoid using metal utensils, aggressive scourers, or any detergent.

An outstanding skillet.
Recently I ordered this 15 inch skillet made by Lodge, and I'm really pleased with it and would totally recommend it. I also own two of Lodge's slightly bigger 17inch skillets as well.Lodge skillets are beautifully crafted and extremely heavy duty! This one is no exception! It's very respectable in size, and so is good for a crowd of people, and the cast iron is about 3mm thick! With proper care, it really will last more than a lifetime! However, some may find this skillet too heavy! (Personally I love the fact that case iron is so heavy). It's also fairly pricey compared with other cheaper cast iron skillets that are out there, but the quality of Lodge cast iron is so good that I definitely would rather pay the extra money!!
