My golf pro advised me to buy the mid-length orange whip which is approximately the length of a 5 iron. I bought both the 5 iron and the driver lengths. Unfortunately the driver length encourages me to over-swing. So I should have stayed with the 5 iron. Hope that helps.

Did anybody’s just come in a box with bits of newspaper and no instructions on how to use it?

No really instructions included. You can look up how to use it on the internet. I bought the same midsize one - the idea is to swing it at least 15 times / day to build up the speed of one's swing. I find it brilliant to use to warm up - swinging slowly at first and gradually increasing speed. It also seems to naturally help me find a good swing plane and good release. I highly recommend it.

Is this just another gadget

I have found the orange whip trainer to be very useful. I practice swinging in the garden and my distances have increased a great deal especially my drives as it helps you to feel the lag and stay in balance. I bought the ladies one as I am 5ft 6 and this is right for me. Definitely worth the money - happy golfing!
