Does it need soil in which to grow, or will it climb up a tree?

I have thousands of these plants. They grow in sections and easily break off. The tendrils that hold the plants to the stake or in nature, a tree, are also roots. Ive gone to ship a plant and pulled them out of plug trays only to find no soil only roots.. So yes, i believe that in very moist tropical environment the plant will root into almost no soil. They will climb trees no problem and take their water and nutrients from the surroundings. Try it.

had 15 flowers none have set fruit. The original description said this was self-fertile. What do you recommend to cross pollinate with??

The plants are generally self fertile but you need polinators such as bees and butterflies, which are in short supply in many places. Perhaps you can polinate the flowers by hand as many people do with dragonfruit.
