Yes, there are three separate speed/tork settings you can choose from to that. The auto mode is a separate or fourth option on the drill. It's a tuff little impact.

Is this impact made in japan or china? if this is not are there any of their impacts made in japan still?

The impact that I purchased is made in China. I don't have the answer if any of the Makita impacts are still made in Japan.
