Easy to use
Fun to use. Helped me find some plates that had lead glazing or lead in decorative paint

Actually works! Important tool, especially if you have infants, toddlers or young children.
This is a lead detection kit that, when used according to directions, actually works, unlike many of the lead detection kits available in hardware stores. It’s more expensive, of course, but each kit is good for up to 100 individual tests. It works on paint, pipes, glass, metal, plastic, ceramics and more. Made in The 🇳🇱 Netherlands. I love having a way to test household items - dishes, glasses, decorative objects - for safety. There’s a lot more lead ☠️ lurking around our homes, and especially our kitchens, than most people realize.

Saved me from ingesting lead the first day I used it
The same day that I received this in the mail, I used it to test a new metal water bottle before drinking out of it for the first time. This revealed that there was a small almost undetectable line of solder inside the bottle that used lead and that the water would’ve been exposed to if I had used that bottle for drinking.I have included a photo of the interior of a water bottle. You can just barely make out the green glow along part of an exposed solder line inside the bottle that indicates the presence of lead.I also bought that bottle here on Amazon and have since reported it to Amazon for being dangerous. This testing kit is expensive, but it’s worth every penny. The chemical used in this kit is extremely irritating and bad for you so when they say in the directions to keep it away from your skin and eyes and use it in a well ventilated area you should follow those instructions.

It only reacts to lead… which is key.
I have been eyeballing this test for a while since I started seeing the research. Mind you, I read every piece of study and publication the company put out prior to buying this product. By day I am a lead poisoning inspector for the state, so I was immediately intrigued. And due to the difficulty of a family getting their hands on an XRF machine, and the scarcity of the only approved “accurate” testing swabs, this sounded too good to be true.I just went through my home and tested things known to have no lead, things known to have lead, and things I was unsure about. Only the leaded items became UV reactive, and it is instantaneous. What I did not expect was for the oxidized, microscopic dust to show. That was a very great visual to see not only the main issue, but the problem with leaving a hazard unchecked.I plan to use this as an educational tool in the field for work, and also to check items while thrifting. Highly recommend considering this for your family if you have small children. My ONLY reason for giving 4 stars is due to the amount of reagent you receive. However on that note, when the reliable test swabs are $10-$15 a swab for a single test, the price point is still far above fair. For someone who will use this for work as an educational and visual aid however, more reagent would be lovely.I would recommend this highly to find actual hazards if you don’t have access to an XRF. And even if using an XRF, keep in mind you are seeing results for ALL layers of paint, not just the exposed areas.

Does Not Work
I tested this on about 20 items, and received a negative result for all. No reference sample or verification system is included, so if you only get negative results, there is no proof that it works. In an attempt to generate a positive result, I tested primer trays from a reloading machine, and empty shot shells (not lead-free). These items are covered in lead residue, and should have produced a positive result. They did not. Then I tested an obvious sample - a lead bullet. Not copper jacketed or plated, but raw lead. There was no glow, no positive result.Although the process is simple, I did follow the instructions - illuminate the area, apply reagent, watch for luminescence. I also scratched the surfaces, using a sharp object and steel wool, even though it should not be necessary as these contain plenty of surface lead residue.I also tried a lab-type UV light which did not make any difference.Note that none of the reviews with pictures show any control sample. Yes, you see glowing paint, but a lot of lead (and other metal oxide) paint glows under UV just by itself. The spray bottle was not sealed, but the dropper bottle 'tamper seal' was intact. The box itself was sealed. I suppose it's possible that I received a faulty batch of reagent. If not, then this is a complete scam.

It really works
It definitely works! I had tried a number of items and didn't see a glow, so I wasn't sure if it worked. Then I tried an old necklace I had, and it lit up! I will be tossing the necklace right away, and I feel better about my other items not being contaminated with lead.

Works well on high levels of lead
So I bought this to start testing dishes and other collectables that the other lead swabs failed to detect. This is easy to use and the results are immediate. I did not scratch any of the items I tested. It does say to test in a low lit room and that does help, so I test in the evening and dim the lights. I don't believe this test is sensitive enough to test down to the legal limit for children's toys and dishes, but I figured anything that turns green is not safe for anyone to use, so I will be getting rid of these dishes.

This works, when swabs do not
I am a grandparent and want to protect my family from lead toxicity. I bought this kit after finding that the swab/vinegar type seemed to give negative results for a lot of old painted items. See photos. Sure enough, this kit lit up green on the same surfaces. The cost difference is worth it. One must be able to trust a negative test.
