Anderson Bio-Char is a top tier, already activated, and very well known, high quality product. It has a slightly lower price, but is only 4 qts of Bio-Char, and is one of the best made. I've had great results with both, but the Plantonix Bio-Char must be activated (simple. See online instructions). The greatest place to soak beneficial microbes so they'll stay alive and producing in the Root Zone.

No it needs to be charged. Otherwise will remove soil nutrients until it stops soaking them up. Love the rice-sized particles, which offer lots of surface area and homes for beneficial microbes once soaked in compost tea or fertilizer dissolved in water.
