Simple and yummy
My grannie always had a jar of this in her pantry, but I don't recall her drinking it. I think she just kept it for guests. I remember smelling of it when I was a kid. I've been exploring over the past couple of years with coffee-free alternatives, such as tea blends with roasted chicory and dandelion root, which is fine. But this gives a nice, mellow flavor, that I can actually drink without dumping a bunch of cream in it that I use with coffee - I can drink this black. I don't think it tastes like coffee, but it's just different. Very mellow and slightly sweet. I really like it and will probably end up ordering more.

A lifelong staple, despite the price.
I was one of the folks who screamed for Postum to come back after the company stopped making it. There's really no excuse for the price range they brought it back at but I still buy it. It's just such a nice alternative when you want coffee but can't have or don't want the caffeine or you just want something less harsh. The taste is very much like coffee but has a slight hint of brown sugar flavor. I've suggested it to folks who can no longer have coffee and they love it because they say it has the "mouth feel" of coffee. Anything you can add to coffee, you can add to Postum. It also comes in a coffee flavor and they make a cocoa, but I prefer the original to both.

Tasty and Pricey
If you're a Boomer, Postum has been around since the days of our great-grandparents (1895). I read somewhere that it was specifically invented as a nice warm alternative to coffee in the days before decaffeination. The label says it is "naturally caffeine free," "made of roasted wheat-bran & molasses," "100% natural." This description would lead me to think I was drinking cereal, but, no, it's really quite tasty. A cup made with 1–2 teaspoons stirred into boiling water is only 10 calories. No fat; no sodium; no protein; 2 carbs and 1 gram of fiber. About 75 servings can be made from a 8 oz. plastic jar. (If so, those teaspoons, must be level; I usually add more.) You can always add milk, sugar, artificial sweetener, or, I guess, Kahlua if you want a kick that helps you gain weight. The big downside of this product is its price: $17.00, or $2.12 PER OUNCE. Why on earth is this powdered drink so expensive? Is it imported from Thailand? No, that's Ovaltine, which now goes at 14 oz. for eleven bucks. Postum is manufactured by Eliza's Quest Foods of Charlotte, NC. If you visit their website, you can order directly from them the same 8 oz. jar, in three delicious flavors (regular, coffee, cocoa), for ten bucks—but then there's the cost for shipping, for which Amazon Prime members have already ponied up. So there you are. This is a tasty, healthy, unusually expensive beverage.

Great coffee replacement
Very satisfying as I’m getting off coffee. A bit expensive but only need a teaspoon. Just don’t smell it dry. Love it

Couldn't try it.
My jar came with a broken outer seal and the inner seal was stuck in the jar lid, instead of on the jar. So, I didn't try it.🙁

Needs more of a boost.
Did not work for me as a coffee alternative.

Treat yourself!
I treat myself to a jar each year to coincide with hunting season. Been doing this for years. Well, I had a hiatus until it became available again.Postum is Postum. It's the same as it used to be. In my case I have a strange Martian allergy to something in coffee, tea, cokes...and I'm just about sure it is not caffeine. Postum is the only alternate coffee beverage without coffee or chicory. It's just ground up overcooked Cheerios. Ha. It tastes GREAT! But it's not fake coffee. It is its own tasty thing. Here is a trick for you to remember. IF you heat in a pan, put the Postum in before you apply heat, and stir well. I use a spatula. If you start with hot water some of it will glump up and not dissolve even when hit with a hammer. Start with cold water and stir well and you'll be one happy Postum drinker for sure!Addendum - My directions above were for a time when Postum was still old Postum. Since, I believe they have made it *instant* Postum....so it really doesn't matter how you heat it...or spoon it into hot water.Out of curiosity I tried drinking my 2020 Postum treat straight. Tastes like mud-leaf-weak-swamp-water. HOWEVER....IF you apply two or three spoons of sugar and most importantly Half and Half you end up with something that tastes the world like delicious hot cocoa. If someone handed you a cup and you didn't know it you'd swear it was some kind of hot cocoa brand you hadn't had before. No kidding. Especially if you can't do coffee or chocolate you simply can not go wrong with Postum. Not a thing in there to mess with you.

Little pricy but a good flavor all it's own.
Haven't had this in years! Brought back some old memories. My son thinks it tastes like M.R.E. MILITARY COFFEE. I think it's a great break from actual coffee.
