Flawless [DVD]

I just watched "Flawless" for the first time, after it was highly recommended by a friend. Even with high expectations, I was completely blown away by this movie, and especially the performances of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robert DeNiro. And that is saying a lot, considering that these talented actors are right at the top among their peers during the last twenty years or so.I loved the movie, the way the characters were written, and the transformation that occurs between them. As they get to know each other, the outer appearances and bigotry disappear, and they become true friends....almost "sisters". When you watch the movie, you'll understand the reference to them being "sisters" (in quotations). I won't say anymore, except that this movie is a gem, and I highly recommend it to anyone. There is plenty of humor and drama, and the characters are very sympathetic.I watched "Flawless" via instant video rental, and would like to purchase the DVD, but apparently it is now out of print. The only copies available are from marketplace sellers, starting at almost $50.00 for a used copy. I really hope that the producers will eventually re-release this wonderful film on DVD (at a reasonable price) so that more people can enjoy it.

This was a great movie. The storyline and writing were good and overall well delivered. DeNiro was not at his best while trying to recreate his character from 'Awakenings.' The real star was Philip Hoffman, who hammered his lines at every turn. He portrayed a gay man fighting his own demons, all the while trying to help DeNiro (a macho homophobe) recover from a stroke. Watching the characters played by Hoffman and DeNiro develop was very entertaining. If you like watching the realism of New York slum living, you'll like 'Flawless.'

Loved this movie for soooo many reasons. Huge fan of both Phylip Seymour Hoffman and Robert Deniro. To see them both in such oppositional roles, Hoffman as a drag queen and Deniro as a stroke victim ex-copy, is the perfect way to see them shine. And I love the message that these hetero-sexual actors bring to a world filled with transphobia. Watch it. It's good for you.

This film appeals to a wide audience, not just those who watch films with gay characters. It's a real triumph of the human spirit facing adversity with courage and humor. One of my favorite De Niro films and one of my favorite Philip Seymour Hoffman films. Ya gotta see it!

definately a keeper

As the tributes poured in following Hoffman's shocking and sad death, I never heard a mention of my favorite performance of his as Rusty in Flawless. The genre of this film is outside my usual taste and I'm not a De Niro fan (can anyone say that out loud?) but I will watch anything with Hoffman in it and I was richly rewarded. Hoffman's portrayal as the bruised and decent Rusty is both elegant and earthy, playing the foil to De Niro's awakening to a better self. The five stars are for Hoffman alone, it's a stretch for the movie as a whole, but I didn't much care.

Of course Di Nero is good but Seymore Hoffman stole it. It was a great little movie with a bit of everything. I truly enjoyed it.

What a performance!!!! I can't understand how this movie has just slipped away, unrecognized. Oddly, DeNiro is okay. It is Hoffman who is incredible!! He walked away with this film!! DeNiro's performance isn't understated, it's boring. Hoffman's is incandescent!! The final scene alone should have gotten him nominated!! What he can do in any scene is electrifying! When he is on screen, you cannot take your eyes away from him. That's an actor!! Bravo, Mr. Hoffman!!

Such a great movie and such fantastic acting by both stars. So real and true to life. The personality of both stars played flawlessly.One of the few movies that I watched more than once and have given copies away. Good mix of human nature and comedy.Saw it on tv and wanted a copy and was thrilled to get a copy of Flawless through Amazon when I couldn't get a copy from anywhereelse.

I don't know why this film has such low rating. I love it. Perhaps if the conventional De Niro fans would be disappointed - he's not much of an action man here. Thumb up for him opening up for new challanges. However, the real star is Hoffman, who makes me feel he's more of a lady (regardless of the unladylike language). I noticed Hoffman's extraordinary performance from The Talented Mr Ripley - become a die hard fan after watching Doubt. He is surely missed.

My Mom loved this movie!!

This is a little gem of a film. Philip Seymour Hoffman never made a bad movie, a sad loss. The subject matter may not be to everyone's taste but I definitely recommend giving it a try. It's very good De Nero is excellent as the nasty bigoted cop who has suffered a stroke. ( not your obvious happy story line) but I urge you to give it a try.
